All of this is political theater. And I can prove it.

John – Last week Republicans killed their own border security bill because their party is so dysfunctional they can’t even whip votes.

But this was NEVER about border security.

Mike Simpson has been telling lies about a so-called “unprecedented border crisis” for years, and his MAGA colleagues love to throw around charged words like “invasion” without an ounce of proof.

They’ve got people so stirred up by these lies that an entire convoy of Christian Nationalist truckers and various white supremacist groups descended on Eagle Pass a couple weeks ago only to find themselves confused because (spoiler alert) there is no invasion!

See for yourself:

An animated gif of a video clip from an MSNBC report interviewing an Army of God convoy participant admitting things are not that bad at the border.

WAIT...there’s more. 👇

An animated gif of a video clip from a content creator in Texas stating “You were lied to. I’ve been telling y’all from the beginning, it’s all a lie. There is no crisis. There is no invasion. The federal government has this under control.”

If Republicans actually believed there was a border security crisis and they ACTUALLY wanted to fix it, then they wouldn’t have followed orders from Donald Trump who told them to kill this bill.

And while my opponent talks about how important it is to secure our borders, I’d like to remind everyone what the international border between Idaho and Canada looks like:

A photo of a concrete pillar marking the international boundary between the U.S. in Canada in Idaho. Behind the border marker is an open dirt road with free access to either side.

While Republicans were putting on this ridiculous show (and losing their own vote in the process), here are some of the problems Congress HASN’T addressed:

  • Arbitrary new immigration measures make it harder for Idaho farmers to recruit seasonal farm labor.

  • Immigrant families sit for months while their lives hang in the balance because Republicans refuse to fund or staff the agencies needed to process their claims.

  • We’re no closer to a spending bill that will meet our commitments and keep the government open after the first of March.

That’s just to name a few.

Mike Simpson has left us to fend for ourselves because he chooses to side with the extremists in his party. If he can’t put his country before politics, then it’s time for Mike to go. Pitch in now to help me flip ID-02 in November and take back the House majority!

Let’s not forget that while Mike Simpson complains constantly about a fake border crisis, he along with all the other Republicans voted to cut the border security budget by 22% last year.

We need honest partners at the table working for compassionate immigration reform, responsible spending, and working to make the lives of Idaho families better.

John, whatever happened to loving your neighbor? Welcoming our tired, our sick, and our poor? Isn’t this what our country was founded on?

Idaho is my home, and when I’m elected I will always put people before politics. Help me flip this seat and let’s put an end to the GOP’s chaos in Congress.

Thank you,

David

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
