ACLU Supporter –

There's a lot going on at the ACLU – and in the fight for people's rights. To keep you updated, we wanted to send you a super quick rundown of three recent updates we're tracking at work right now. We hope it helps you start the week off feeling informed and ready to act:

* We're suing in New York to protect people's voting power. With 2024 elections around the corner, nationwide efforts to diminish the political power of communities of color are surging. That's why the ACLU and our affiliate NYCLU recently filed suit against Nassau County <[link removed]> over the legislature's redistricting plan for diluting the voting strength and political power of Black, Latine, and Asian residents – in direct violation of the new New York Voting Rights Act.

* We continue to fight against discriminatory drag bans – and win – across the country. The ACLU of Tennessee just won a settlement ending a drag ban <[link removed]> ordinance in Murfreesboro, TN, after the city denied permits for a local Pride event because there would be drag performers present. And last week, we supported a challenge <[link removed]> against a Florida bill censoring drag performers across the state. Drag is free speech protected by the First Amendment and we'll always fight to defend it.

* We're taking action to stop mass surveillance of protestors exercising their free speech. Representative Nancy Pelosi's recent calls for the FBI to investigate ceasefire protestors show why it's so important to reform Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act – the very law used to justify unconstitutional spying on Americans. You can join us in our calls to stop mass surveillance by urging Congress to take action now. <[link removed]>

ACLU Supporter, there's much more to come – and much more to fight for up ahead so expect us in your inbox again soon this week. In the meantime, thanks for all that you do to support this critical work.

Here's to Monday,

The ACLU Team
