John –

This week, I called on Congress to pass the House border security bill - H.R. 2 - in tandem with the supplemental spending bill the Senate passed that did not include any money for border security. I also explained why I voted to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas and called on the Biden Administration to combat threats from TikTok.

We have our primaries in Texas next month, and I need your help to win re-election. I’m running for re-election because I believe this country is still worth fighting for even in our toxic political environment. Any donation to my campaign - even a small amount - will go a long way to help ensure I can continue fighting on the issues that matter to you. You can donate at the following link, and I am forever grateful for your support:
Thank you for your continued support. Now, here’s your brief.
CONGRESS MUST NOT ABANDON BORDER SECURITY
The Senate border bill is dead, but that does not mean we can abandon border security.

After the Senate defeated the border legislation that failed to address the severity of the crisis we’re facing, they passed a supplemental aid package without any border security attached to it.

Now, the House should send back that aid package with the House-passed border bill - H.R. 2. Our legislation passed last year will actually address the root causes of the border crisis and combat illegal immigration. That should be the place where we start negotiations and demand the White House and Senate Democrats come to the negotiating table if they want to pass a supplemental aid package.

Congress cannot abandon efforts to secure the border. We need strong measures now and the House border bill is what we must send back to the Senate to start these negotiations again.
WHY I VOTED TO IMPEACH MAYORKAS
This week, I voted to impeach DHS Secretary Mayorkas. Unfortunately that vote failed.

Impeachment is a political act, not a judicial one. We aren’t a court. Impeachment is our sole recourse for the people to remove a President or an official who has overwhelmingly lost the trust of the people. A lot of people claim there aren’t grounds to impeach Mayorkas because, technically, no crimes have been committed. But the Founders enshrined impeachment as a recourse for the Legislative Branch to remove those in the Executive Branch who aren’t doing their jobs — even if there’s no crime. It’s a feature of the checks and balances principle. That’s my interpretation of the impeachment authority. Other smart people disagree, and believe a provable crime must be committed. But if that’s the case - and there’s a crime committed - then wouldn’t we rely on the courts to enforce?

Mayorkas has abandoned his position as DHS Secretary. He has refused to execute his basic duties under the law and refused to enforce immigration law. Mayorkas will be impeached. This isn’t finished.
THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION MUST COMBAT TIKTOK
China continues to infiltrate our private lives and poison the minds of our youth. Our threats to shut down TikTok have not stopped them from continuing to prey on the American people and collect our data.

I support legislation to ban TikTok — full stop. But I’m also calling on the Biden Administration to take immediate action by blocking the transfer of U.S. software to this Chinese Communist Party spy app. This is bipartisan and commonsense.
