Friends,

This week was eventful in the Capitol. I voted to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, though the measure failed. I expect the House will bring it up for a vote again, soon, and I will again vote to impeach Mayorkas.

I also called on the Biden Administration to clamp down on TikTok add its parent company ByteDance to the Commerce department's foreign entity list. This would cripple its ability to update software in the United States, limiting its ability to operate, and stopping the Chinese from collecting pertinent data on Americans.

Sincerely,

Rep. Crenshaw votes to Impeachment Secretary Mayorkas

Image

This week I voted to impeach DHS Secretary Mayorkas. Unfortunately, the vote failed.

Impeachment is a political act, not a judicial one. We aren’t a court. Impeachment is our sole recourse for the people to remove a President or an official who has overwhelmingly lost the trust of the people. A lot of people claim there aren’t grounds to impeach Mayorkas because, technically, no crimes have been committed. Buth the Founders enshrined Impeachment as a recourse for the Legislative Branch to remove those in the Executive Branch who aren’t doing their jobs – event if there is no crime. It’s a feature of the checks and balances principle. That’s my interpretation of the impeachment authority. Other smart people disagree and believe a provable crime must be committed. But if that’s the case – and there is a crime committed – then wouldn’t we rely on the courts to enforce?

Mayorkas has abandoned his position as DHS Secretary. He has refused to execute his basic duties under the law and refused to enforce immigration law. The House plan to bring the matter up for a vote again, and I believe he will be impeached.

Rep. Crenshaw honored by the Nation Narcotic Officers' Associations' Coalition

Image

This week I was proud to receive the National Narcotic Officers’ Associations’ Coalition’s 2023 Outstanding Member of the House award. The work these law enforcement professionals take on is vital to the security of communities across our nation. They also save lives by combating the drug cartels who are trafficking poisonous drugs into the country. It was an honor to receive this award and meet with the outstanding men and women that are taking on this fight for our country.

Reps. Crenshaw and Gottheimer Lead Bipartisan Push to Block U.S. Software to TikTok

This week I led a bipartisan letter with Rep. Josh Gottheimer calling on the Commerce department to add ByteDance – TikTok’s parent company – to the Commerce Department’s foreign entity list. As ByteDance continues to operate in the U.S., the Crenshaw-Gottheimer letter calls on the Biden Administration to use its authority to address the worst excesses of the app by preventing the transfer of U.S. software to ByteDance.

Unfortunately, China continues to infiltrate our private lives and poison the minds of our youth. Our threats to shut down TikTok have not stopped them from continuing to prey on the American people and collect our data. This is unacceptable and must be swiftly addressed. I support legislation to ban TikTok, full stop. But I am also calling on the Biden Administration to take immediate action to protect users across our nation.

EPA’s Irresponsible NAAQS Determination

This week the EPA announced its updated National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for fine particulate matter. The action taken by the EPA is irresponsible and will be detrimental to our nation’s economy. In 2020, the EPA reviewed the standards and left them at the same level as the Obama-Biden Administration, determining them to be sufficient. The U.S. has some of the lowest fine particulate matter levels in the world, even lower than other developed nations such as France, Germany and Great Britain. What Biden’s radical EPA did with this final rule is tighten the standard of allow particulate matter by 25%, which is going to make it hard to build infrastructure like road and bridges, and manufacturing.

Congressman Crenshaw speaks to Energy Workforce & Technology Council

Image

This week I had an opportunity to speak with leaders from the energy services and technology industry. Many of these companies are headquartered in the Houston area and employee hundreds of thousands of people across the nation and around the world. The energy industry in Texas is paramount to not only our local and State economy, but that of our nation’s economy as well. In my role on the Energy & Commerce Committee, I am often called on to vote on and conduct oversight of policies impacting this industry and it is always great to hear from the people in the trenches getting the job done to power our world.
