Dear John,
This week, Senate Democrats unveiled a phony border "deal" that was negotiated between Chuck Schumer, Mitch McConnell, and Joe Biden. It was actually a Ukraine support bill, designed to give political cover to Biden going in an election year, by trying to make it look like he wanted to fix the border crisis that he created.
Democrats felt pressure to make a "deal" because President Biden and DHS Secretary Mayorkas have spent the past 3 years facilitating a border invasion of 10 million illegal aliens, enough deadly drugs to kill every American, and record levels of human trafficking. It is putting tens of billions of dollars a year into the hands of Mexican drug cartels, killing Americans, and placing a tremendous strain on schools and welfare systems across our country. Even sanctuary city mayors in New York and Chicago are complaining about the strain it is putting on their communities.
And the backroom Senate deal would codify into law the bad policies that created the Biden Border Crisis.
Specifically, it would enshrine into law the Obama-Biden "catch-and-release" policy with a goal of releasing as many illegal aliens as possible into the country as fast as possible. It would allow up to 35,000 illegal border crossings per week -- or nearly 2 million per year -- before a president would have to close the border for a single day. It would give immediate work permits to illegal aliens. And it would not require a single foot of wall to be built by President Biden.
The list could go on and on, but as you can see, this bill was meant to be nothing more than a political lifeline for a president who has failed his most basic responsibility to keep Americans safe, and is trailing President Trump in the polls.
President Biden created the current crisis on January 20, 2021 – his first day on the job. Now he wants Congress to make his open borders policies the permanent law of the land.
I have made 6 trips to the border since President Biden took office, and I have heard first-hand from border patrol agents, state and local law enforcement, and those who live in border communities. I have witnessed brazen illegals crossing the border before my eyes. But President Biden can’t be bothered to actually visit the border, and has only made ONE drive-by visit in 3 years, just to be able to say he had been there.
The Biden Administration and congressional Democrats have proven time and again that they are not serious about real border security. In fact, President Biden could end the border invasion today, by simply reversing the executive actions he took to open the border the day he became president. But he and the Democrats want the border invasion, they just don’t want the voters blaming them for it in November.
Thankfully conservative House Republicans and the American people spoke out, and an overwhelming majority of Senate Republicans listened and killed the phony border deal.
The Senate now needs to pass our real border security bill, called H.R. 2, that was passed out of the House last summer. Until then, I am committed to voting against funding for non-essential federal government services until we pass H.R. 2 and force President Biden to secure the border and end illegal entry into our country.
I also voted this week to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas for willful dereliction of duty. Unfortunately, 3 House Republicans voted with the Democrats to deny us the majority.
However, our Majority Leader, Steve Scalise, missed the impeachment vote because he was receiving cancer treatments. And there is a special election in New York next Tuesday to fill a currently vacant seat which was held by a Republican. So, there will be an opportunity for the House to take another vote and pass impeachment as early as next week.
Looking forward to next year, as Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, I will join with President Trump to finish building the wall, fully fund border enforcement, ban catch-and-release, and deport dangerous criminals from our country. ([link removed])
