Message from Rep. Tracey Mann. Having Trouble Viewing? Click Here. Fellow Kansan, Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter! I’m pleased to update you on my work in Washington, D.C. and the First District of Kansas. It is an honor to represent Kansans in the Big First District in the 118th Congress. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America – I serve to fight and work to make it stronger, and I believe our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service,   Mann.House.Gov The Week Ahead The House of Representatives is back in session this week. Today, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Subcommittee on Aviation held a hearing to examine the current state of American aviation and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). I met with FAA Administrator Michael Whitaker and asked him about federal transparency in rulemaking and to address other areas of concern for Kansans in the Big First. Mann's Small Business Resources Legislation Click the video above to watch my full remarks in last week's House Small Business Committee mark up. I'm pleased that my legislation, the National SBDC Advisory Board Act, passed unanimously in the House Committee on Small Business last week. Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) often offer the tools and resources that America’s small business owners, which are especially important now as they are facing rampant inflation, high-interest rates, and a disrupted supply chain. My legislation will hold the National SBDC Advisory Board accountable for recommending how to keep those services and resources current and high-quality. The Big First has five SBDCs across the district - Liberal, Dodge City, Hays, Manhattan, and Lawrence, each in partnership with a college or university. As the U.S. Representative for these five SBDCs, and for the more than 200,000 small businesses in the Big First District, I will always support avenues that lead them to success and economic prosperity for our state. I look forward to the legislation’s swift passage in the House of Representatives. Click here to read more about the legislation. H.R. 7129, the Put America on Commission Act, which would incentivize the public to come forward with credible tips on pandemic loan fraud evidence, and which I also cosponsor, also passed unanimously in the House Small Business Committee last week. Now, the Biden Administration is crushing us with its out-of-control spending addiction and anti-growth agenda. On Thursday, I voted for the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act because it will revive conservative pro-growth, pro-family, and pro-worker tax reforms, boost our economy, and end wasteful spending. Specifically, it will: Restore Research and Development (R&D) expensing. Provide 100% bonus depreciation. Support small businesses. Offer disaster tax relief for communities. Support middle-class families. Extend the low-income housing tax credit. I remain committed to creating an economy that's strong for Kansans, as outlined in my Commitment to the Big First, and I will continue to support pro-economic growth legislation and cut burdensome red tape and wasteful spending. As a proud K-State alum, I’m grateful for the work that K-State does to advance the land-grant university mission and to develop the well-being of Kansas, the nation, and the world. Thank you for meeting with me, and go Cats! K-State Student Government Association & University of Kansas Student Government Association Student government associations play a crucial role in nurturing leadership, fostering collaboration, and amplifying student voices. They provide a platform for students to take charge of their education, address their concerns, and shape their campus community. Last week, I met with the K-State Student Government Association Executive Board and University of Kansas Student Government Association Executive Board while they were in Washington, D.C. for the Big XII on the Hill Conference. As a past K-State student body president, I'm grateful for student government associations' leadership and willingness to advocate on behalf of students on Capitol Hill. Kansas Association of School Boards The Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) serves 286 school districts and 39 cooperatives, service centers, community colleges, and technical colleges across Kansas. Last week, I met with Dr. Emily Riner, Rod Stewart, and Leah Fliter with KASB to discuss issues like supporting professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators and providing innovative learning programming for all students. Thank you, KASB, for supporting our hardworking educators and the next generation of Kansans in the Big First. National Federation of the Blind of Kansas The National Federation of the Blind of Kansas (NFBKS) strives to break down misunderstandings around being blind and to equip people who are blind with resources to help them thrive. I appreciate NFBKS for meeting with me last week to share how they are accomplishing their mission through innovative programs across the state.
