Sister District 2023 Impact Report
YOU Made It Happen!

Sister District and its wonderful volunteers had a HUGE influence on 2023 election outcomes! Sister District volunteers, LIKE YOU, collectively did all this:

  • We reached out to 377,435 voters through calls, texts, and doors, averaging 43% of all calls made to voters by our candidates, 40% of which were made in the crucial, often overlooked spring and summer months.
  • We hosted 554 team events for candidates.
  • We completed more than 40 special projects in areas like targeting and messaging through our Campaign Services program.
  • We raised $679,197 for candidates and power-building organizations.

Don't Miss the Sister District Summit on March 9 Featuring Keynote Speaker Mandela Barnes!

Please join our seventh annual Sister District Summit held virtually on Saturday, March 9 — featuring a special fireside chat with Mandela Barnes!

Mandela Barnes is the 45th Lt. Governor of Wisconsin – the state’s second-ever Black statewide elected official and first-ever Black Lt. Governor. He started his career as an organizer, served in the Wisconsin legislature, and ran a record-breaking U.S. Senate campaign, where he came one point away from unseating a two-term incumbent in Wisconsin’s closest Senate election in 100 years.

Why We Do What We Do

The Importance of State Legislatures and the
Work of Sister District

We are a grassroots organization that depends on you!  Our shared work to elect more Democratic state lawmakers, flip chambers, and break Republican supermajorities—all while boosting turnout for up-ballot races in presidential battlegrounds—is more important than ever.

State legislatures are important, frequently-overlooked power centers, where we can protect and advance essential policies that lift people up by continuing to build our power, no matter what happens at the federal level.

In 2024, we’ll be returning to states like Arizona, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania – huge presidential battlegrounds, where we must drive turnout up and down the ticket in order to win. We are counting on you to help us do it!

Support Our 2024 State Bridges Partners!

Sister District DC/VA/MD is excited to support our State Bridges partners in Pennsylvania this year! Join us and Sister District groups from across the country on March 13, 8-9:30 pm ET, for an online event featuring special guests from our partner organizations, conversations with Sister District founders and leaders, and opportunities for attendees to ask questions and learn more about what’s happening on the ground in these key states.

Help us reinforce community-based organizers and activists from Pennsylvania Stands Up and Pennsylvania United by donating here or by texting bridgesdcva to 833-602-8124!

AND, Sister District has received a generous matching fund of $40,000 for our 2024 State Bridges Program: $5,000 will be allocated to each of our eight partner organizations, and $10,000 of this fund will be matched at each fundraising event.

The goal is to raise $10,000 at each fundraiser in order to unlock the matching funds.  The other half of the matching funds will be used in digital fundraising pushes later this year to encourage continued support of our partners as they lay the ground-game in these battleground states.

Please help us reach our State Bridges goals!

Can't make it on March 13? Don't miss the February 7 State Bridges event featuring a keynote address by Lt. Governor of Wisconsin—and Sister District alum—Sara Rodriguez and supporting partners in Michigan and Wisconsin: Mothering Justice, We The People Michigan, Citizen Action of Wisconsin, and WISDOM.

Crossing the Bridge and Meeting Our Volunteers -- Mark Your Calendars!

In conjunction with the State Bridges program, we will be participating in the Crossing the Bridge event on April 14, and celebrating afterward with our Spring volunteer kick-off party.  We are working out the details, but mark your calendars and watch this space for more information!

Before You Go...

Sister District's mission is to imagine, build, and expand progressive power in state legislatures, and we know that organizing around elections is just one piece of the puzzle.

That's why we're amplifying the voices of local lawmakers, educating the public about the importance of state leaders and policies, and inspiring people to deepen their civic engagement -- especially locally and down-ballot.

Sister District DC/VA/MD is pleased to welcome its new Steering Committee Members, Sheri, Allison, and Lynn.  We look forward to working with you!
