Protecting Wyoming Industries from a Carbon Tax and the Biden Administration’s Overreach
Since his first day in office, President Biden has used every regulatory tool at his disposal to limit domestic energy production to appease environmental extremists.

Last week, President Biden escalated his war on domestic energy by ordering a pause on all pending non-Free Trade Agreement export permit applications for LNG, a de facto export ban.

I joined U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) in sending a scathing letter to the Biden administration urging it to reconsider the pause and instead work to unleash American energy. Beyond being a direct escalation in President Biden’s war on domestic energy, the ban is also a late Christmas gift to America’s energy-producing foreign adversaries. American LNG is the cleanest in the world, and a ban just means other countries will rely more on dirtier foreign alternatives, like Russia, Iran and Qatar.

The Biden admin's LNG export ban operates under the same flawed logic French utility Engie used to halt U.S. LNG before turning around and buying Russian LNG with 40% more emissions. Even worse, the European Union is trying to impose a carbon tax on Wyoming energy by 2026 that would fall under the same flawed logic. We cannot defer to the Europeans to tell us how to calculate taxes on our own industries.

I joined U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) in voting for the PROVE IT Act which will defend Wyoming’s robust energy and manufacturing industries from other countries’ carbon taxes by gathering data to show how Wyoming sets the bar in terms of environmental standards.

We know the technological miracle of fracking and an increased abundance of domestic LNG have been the main reasons American emissions have decreased 15% since 2005, the most in the advanced world.

The data is clear – Wyoming energy is a global force for good.

I will continue to work in Washington to unleash domestic energy production, limit the damage of foreign carbon taxes and ensure there is never a domestic carbon tax.

Happy Trails,
Senator Lummis' Week in Pictures
I was thrilled to celebrate Wyoming native Monica M. Bertagnolli becoming the new Director of the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Bertagnolli grew up on a ranch in southwestern Wyoming and previously served as the 16th Director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and worked as a Professor at Harvard Medical School and a surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. I know she will make Wyoming proud in her new role!
WORKING IN WASHINGTON

Legislative Actions:

  • I joined U.S. Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) in introducing a bill which seeks to permanently ban US funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and divert the funds to protect the people of Wyoming by continuing construction of a wall at our southwestern border.
    • Rather than funding an agency with known connections to Hamas and the terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7th, the federal government should be prioritizing stopping the invasion at our southwest border.

Major Votes:

  • voted against President Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Environmental Protection Agency’s office of Air and Radiation, Joe Goffman.
    • Joe Goffman has dedicated his career to championing radical, job-killing regulations and anti-American energy policies that would deliver a fatal blow to Wyoming’s booming energy industry. He even blamed Wyoming for Denver's poor air quality, as if that makes any sense.
WORKING IN WYOMING

Working for Wyoming:

The Clark Wildfire in Wyoming was a tragic reminder of the indiscriminate destruction wildfires cause and showed just how difficult and costly it can be to rebuild what you have lost. When a family loses everything in a wildfire, the last thing they should be worried about is setting aside money from insurance to pay taxes.

That is why U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) and I introduced the Protect Innocent Victims of Taxation After Fire Act which exempts insurance payments to victims of wildfires from federal taxes. Every last dollar from wildfire insurance should go to helping families rebuild their lives instead of padding tax coffers in Washington.

News Around Wyoming:

Wyoming Tribune Eagle
On Nov. 19, 2021, Allyson Fertig made her debut with the University of Wyoming women’s basketball team. While she played just nine minutes and recorded five points, UW knew what it had in her.

From that day, she has been one of the most integral parts of UW’s success over the last two and a half years.
2nd Annual Wyoming Funding Summit Set for April 8-12 in Riverton
I am thrilled to announce registration is open for the second annual Wyoming Funding Summit hosted by Senator John Barrasso, Governor Mark Gordon and me!

The summit provides FREE professional training on identifying, applying for, securing and managing grant funding. You will get the opportunity to interact with and hear directly from state and federal funding agencies. Towns and counties are strongly encouraged to attend.

WYOMING SHOUT OUT
A walk across a frozen pond almost ended in disaster for a couple of Gillette horses after the ice buckled under their weight and they became trapped under the ice. Led by Battalion Chief Kate Eischeid, the Campbell County Fire Department responded to a call for help and quickly arrived at the ranch just ten minutes later.

The firefighters secured their safety lines and got right to work cutting through the ice to free the pair of horses. After 20 minutes, enough ice had been cut to allow the horses to escape the frigid pond. While the horses were clearly freezing, they escaped major injury and are doing great.

Thank you to the Campbell County Fire Department for all you do to protect the animals and people living in our state!
