John – Our primary election here in Texas is happening next month in March, and I need your help to be successful in this first step of my journey towards re-election. First, let me explain why I am running for re-election. Many are choosing not to run for reelection to Congress. That is understandable, quite frankly. Congress, like the rest of American politics, has become a toxic place. The incentive structure that exists in Congress rewards provocateurs on social media and cable news rather than serious legislators. Many of the serious legislators, and real leaders in Congress, have opted not to seek reelection because of how disillusioned they’ve become with the institution. But, for me, that is all the more reason to stay in the fight. We need real, conservative leadership focused on serious policymaking at a time when Congress is devoid of it. And that is exactly the type of leadership I’ve tried to provide since being elected in 2018 - principled, conservative leadership that delivers serious policy wins for our country. I sit on the Energy and Commerce Committee, one of the most powerful committees in Congress. I use my position on that committee to fight for the vital oil and gas industry, and I’ve passed legislation into law to protect and expand American energy independence. As Chairman of the Task Force to Combat the Mexican Drug Cartels, I’m developing concrete solutions to destroy those responsible for killing tens of thousands of Americans every year with fentanyl poison. I also serve on the House Intelligence Committee, where I’m working to address the always-evolving national security challenges of the United States. And, as a Texan, I’m leading the effort in Congress to develop concrete policy solutions to secure our southern border. I take this job seriously. It has been an honor to serve my state and country these past few years, and I am genuinely excited to continue that service even in the face of this challenging and often toxic political environment.
