Dear John

Today, the third anniversary of the military coup in Burma, hundreds of Burmese civil society organisations and international human rights groups have joined forces demanding the UN Security Council finally take action about the situation in Burma. Burma Campaign UK has joined them. Will you?

Human rights groups in Burma are calling on the UN Security Council to pass a binding resolution which should:
* Refer Burma to the International Criminal Court so that violations of human rights can be investigated and those responsible prosecuted.
* Impose an arms embargo to stop the supply of arms and military equipment to the Burmese military.
* Ban the supply of aviation fuel to Burma to help stop airstrikes by the Burmese military.
* Impose sanctions on the military, its companies and state-owned enterprises which fund the Burmese military.

The letter to UN Security Council members describes how the Burmese military has carried out almost 1,000 airstrikes in the past year and, since the attempted coup began, forced more than 2.6 million people to flee their homes and arrested more than 25,000 people.

The letter tells UN Security Council members that there are no excuses for further delay, and they must live up to their mandate.
