After what always seems like the longest month of the year, we have made it through to the end of January. Congratulations are in order for our Roosevelt Congressional Caucus Chair Rep. Buddy Carter (R-GA) who has been named <[link removed]> Chair of the Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Subcommittee. In 2022, we honored <[link removed]> him with a Congressional Champion Award. We’ll be sitting down with him in February to get some insights into his new position and his priorities for the year, so be on the lookout for the video. We also saw great news <[link removed]> come out of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Work (EPW) this month, with the passage of two important pieces of environmental legislation. With strong bipartisan support, EPW advanced S. 2781, the Good Samaritan Remediation of Abandoned Hardrock Mines Act of 2023 <[link removed]> , and S.1863, the Providing Reliable, Objective, Verifiable Emissions Intensity and Transparency (PROVE IT) Act of 2023 <[link removed]> to the full Senate for consideration. ConservAmerica has been focused on the Good Samaritan issue for many years and views it as an important component to cleaning up pollution and providing necessary minerals for our country’s economic growth. Other things to be on the lookout for next month will be ConservAmerica President Jeff Kupfer’s guest appearance on The Energy Show podcast, as a follow-up to his Wall Street Journal opinion piece, An LNG Export Ban is Bad Politics for Biden <[link removed]> . Earlier this month, Jeff spoke to Greenwire <[link removed]> to discuss how conservative climate groups, like ours, are approaching the Republican presidential primaries. As we close out our monthly wrap-up, we’d like to take a moment to extend our most heartfelt condolences to RCC member Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) who lost <[link removed]> his wife Bobbi to brain cancer last week. We were deeply saddened to hear the news and will continue to keep the Barrasso family in our thoughts and prayers. <[link removed]> WSJ Commentary: An LNG Export Ban Is Bad Politics for Biden <[link removed]> President Biden is in a pickle. He has presided over record production of U.S. oil and natural gas, which has supported jobs, bolstered the economy and supplied global markets. But the far left’s dogmatic aversion to fossil fuels has turned this success into a potential election liability. The president’s team is trying to walk a fine line to keep everyone happy. But if Mr. Biden pulls back on oil and natural-gas production to appease environmentalists, it could harm the economy, national security, the environment—and his re-election prospects. He is willing to embrace innovative policy solutions and recognizes that a strong economy based on market principles is essential to durable environmental stewardship. We congratulate Congressman Carter on his important new leadership position and look forward to supporting his work as subcommittee chair.” Read More <[link removed]> <[link removed]> ConservAmerica Applauds Senate EPW Approval of Good Samaritan and PROVE IT <[link removed]> ConservAmerica applauded the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Work’s (EPW) passage of two important pieces of environmental legislation. Per the article: ConservAmerica has been pushing campaigns and candidates to clearly lay out their climate and conservation visions, said Jeff Kupfer, the group’s president. Kupfer and his colleague, Quill Robinson, wrote an opinion piece <[link removed]> in The Hill in November imploring candidates to talk more about the environment, calling it an “unforced error” to avoid the topic. "This should be one of the issues that all of the candidates mention," Kupfer said. "They shouldn’t just let this slide as they go through the process."
