Dear John,

At only 3 pounds, Bonbon's a heavyweight champ after winning the battle for his life.

Tough as he is, he wouldn’t have survived without a groundbreaking medical treatment, and an innovative partnership between PAWS Chicago and Chicago Animal Care & Control (CACC).

We recently joined forces with CACC to develop a comprehensive public-private program—called PAWS 360@CACC—providing lifesaving resources to Chicago’s homeless and at-risk cats and dogs.

These new programs will offer 360-degree support for animals at every stage in their shelter journeys—from intake diversion to on-site adoption support, and from volunteer training to lifesaving medical treatment for parvo-positive puppies.

At just 8 weeks old, Bonbon was stricken with parvovirus, a highly contagious disease that preys on puppies and often ends their lives. Dogs who are symptomatic for parvo can’t be quarantined at CACC and due to the risk of outbreak, need to be transferred or euthanized. As part of the new partnership, PAWS Chicago now transfers and treats all parvovirus+ puppies, and as many parvovirus+ adults as our Medical Center capacity permits.

Please note: These dogs are happiest in homes without small children and may be selective about other pets.

Enjoy monthly, limited-edition Piece pizzas created to benefit homeless pets!

Bill Jacobs, the owner of Piece Pizza, has secured four donors to match the $10 per specialty pizza that will be given to PAWS Chicago through early April. With these matches, every specialty pie ordered through April 9 will result in a $50 donation to PAWS Chicago.

This month, Doug Sohn (Hot Doug's) and Barry Sorkin (Smoque BBQ) have cooked up the Smoque'in Hot Creole Pizza. On February 9, Stephanie Izard (Girl & the Goat, Little Goat Diner, Duck Duck Goat) will unveil an all-new pizza creation. And in March, Rick Bayless (Frontera Grill, Topolobampo, XOCO) will bring back the Bayless Family Pizza.

Pet of the Month: Thunder

Put your hands together, and clap for Thunder!

Despite her name, this gentle, 13-year-old kitty is shy of new people and places, but once she warms up, she shows a hugely inquisitive, loving side. Thunder always wants to be nearby and “in the know.” And while she has arthritis in her front paws, she loves chilling on your lap or looking out the window at the sights and birds.

Thunder is ready to share her snuggles and her heart with the perfect person or family who will appreciate the benefits of a senior cat. Maybe it’s you.
