Dear john,

Today holds a great significance to all of humanity - Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Today is a day to honor the memory of the millions who perished in one of the darkest chapters in history, to pay tribute to the resilience of those who survived, to remember the Righteous Gentiles who risked their lives to rescue Jews, and to reaffirm our commitment to preventing such atrocities from ever happening again.

As a Jewish person, the Holocaust stands as a stark reminder of the consequences of hatred, bigotry, and intolerance. That's why it is our duty to ensure that the stories of the victims and survivors are preserved, shared, and taught. It is our work to ensure that future generations remember and learn from history.

As we remember the consequences of unchecked hate, it is also an important time to acknowledge the antisemitism currently surging in the United States and around the world, something our grandparents talked about, but that most of us believed could never happen again in these enlightened times.

Sadly, we were wrong. The oldest -ism is still very much with us today.

So now, as we remember the Holocaust, we must also renew our commitment to fostering a world where diversity is celebrated and human rights are upheld everywhere. That means examining our own biases, language, and actions, calling out and pushing back on those spewing antisemitic tropes today, and standing in solidarity with our Jewish friends and family members.

As your representative, I am dedicated to advocating for policies that promote inclusivity and understanding within our community and beyond. Together, let us strive to create a world where the lessons of the Holocaust serve as a cautionary tale that we all have to work to ensure a future free from discrimination, prejudice, and violence. By standing united against hatred, we can build a more just and compassionate society.

In peace,

Kim Schrier
