Dear John:

This weekend, with the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, we mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day. With anti-Semitism on the rise across the world, it is more critical than ever for us to remember the lessons of the Holocaust. Let us all honor the memory of the victims, and pray for safety for the Jewish community.

Supporting President Trump’s Colorado Ballot Disqualification Appeal

You may have heard that the state of Colorado is attempting to remove former President Trump from their election ballot. The Colorado Supreme Court ruled that he should be removed, and now the case, Donald J. Trump v. Norma Anderson, et al. is being debated in the U.S. Supreme Court. I have joined 135 of my colleagues in the House and 42 Senate Republicans in filing an amicus brief arguing that Colorado's decision oversteps Congress' authorities and is an abuse of the justice system for political purposes.

The Colorado Court's decision sets a dangerous and undemocratic precedent. It undermines the democratic process and the broad justifications they used to come to their decision, if allowed to stand, can be used to block political opponents well beyond this year's election. President Biden and his allies claim to be defending democracy while they are blatantly undermining this country's democratic process. I am proud to join so many of my colleagues in standing up to defend this democracy, protect our elections, and safeguard the rights of the American people.

Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act

An important tax package has passed out of the House Ways and Means Committee. The Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act will expand America's competitiveness with pro-growth economic policies like restoring expensing for investments in equipment, allowing businesses to expense research and development investments, and strengthening our competitive edge over China by removing double taxation on businesses that work in both the U.S. and Taiwan. It expands the amount of investment write-offs for small businesses and cuts unnecessary red tape. And, it expands access to the child tax credit, increasing the refundable portion of the credit and ensuring it applies fairly to families with multiple children.

Bottom line: This legislation is going to support America's businesses and workers, and build our economy. I am proud this bill passed in Ways and Means with overwhelming bipartisan support, I am excited it is getting a lot of support in the Senate, and I look forward to it coming to the House floor.

Death Tax Repeal Act

Last week, I joined my friend Congressman Randy Feenstra in introducing the Death Tax Repeal Act, which would permanently repeal the death tax. Families across Minnesota's 7th District have spent generations building successful farms or small businesses. These families should not be punished by America's tax code, but, unfortunately, that is what is happening under the current system. Grieving families are faced with the threat of losing their business because of the excessive costs imposed by the death tax, an unfair, costly tax on the transfer of property, land, and other assets from a deceased family member to heir of their family farms and small businesses. I am proud to join my colleagues in introducing the Death Tax Repeal Act to support local farms and businesses across rural America, and the families that operate them.
