Also, the Senate version of Governor Kelly?s comprehensive bipartisan tax proposal that would save Kansans more than $1 billion over three years? (SB 377 [ [link removed] ]) will have a hearing in Senate Committee on Assessment and Taxation (548-S) next Wednesday, January? 31st?at 9:30 a.m. *If this is important to you, the instructions are below about giving testimony.*

Reminder that SB 377:

* Axes the state sales tax on groceries by 4/1/2024 instead of waiting until 2025.
* Eliminates the sales tax on diapers, and feminine hygiene products immediately.
* Cuts state property taxes for Kansas homeowners by raising the residential exemption on a statewide property tax to $100,000.
* Entirely eliminates state taxes on Social Security income saving retired Kansans more than $525 million in the first five years.
* Increases the standard deduction so Kansans pay less when filing their state income taxes.
* Doubles the Child and Dependent Care Tax credit to provide relief for working families in need of childcare.
* Creates a back-to-school sales tax holiday so more working families can ensure their children have the resources they need to be successful in the classroom.
* Protect our state?s fiscal stability by maintaining our state?s ability to continue investing in public schools, strong roads and bridges, and balancing the budget.

This proposal is important because:

* This bipartisan plan would cut taxes for every Kansan while maintaining the state?s strong fiscal standing.

* We are *one of only 11* states in the nation to tax Social Security Benefits.
* Provides much needed property tax relief. The average Kansan homeowner will save nearly $100 per year. 370,000 Kansas homeowners would pay less than $20 annually in state property tax.
* This plan would directly impact and help our Kansas families. It?s extra money in their pockets and the savings will add up.
* This plan will deliver benefits to Kansas families?*without?*diverting resources from other state services or agencies.? ??

*To submit testimony:*

* Individuals wishing to provide testimony before the committee must submit one PDF copy of the written testimony to the committee assistant at [email protected]? *by 9:30 am on Tuesday, January 30. *
