Click here Dear John, Towards the end of last year severe flooding devastated many communities across East Africa, destroying homes, ruining crops, killing livestock and displacing millions of people. We have been working with communities in Ethiopia and Kenya to keep people safe and healthy. Now, as families return home to rebuild their lives, we are ensuring they can access vital healthcare, supplies and information. EthiopiaThe communities we work with across the Somali Region of Ethiopia have faced unprecedented flooding, causing untold damage and losses. Statistics compiled during last month reveal the human impact of this disaster:
Our team in Ethiopia has been transporting health workers to affected areas, so people can benefit from vital healthcare. We will continue working with these communities in the long term to support people's health and improve livelihoods. KenyaOur team in Kenya has been transporting essential supplies, including food, to the various camps where people have been sheltering from the flooding. We've also been promoting hygiene messages through radio broadcasts so people can better avoid spreading and catching waterborne diseases. As the rains subside and flood waters begin to recede, displaced families are starting to return home. Unfortunately, many people are returning to collapsed homes, damaged infrastructure, ruined crops and dead livestock. Please help to spread the word about this appeal through your networks, so more people can contribute to this ongoing effort. And please do give whatever you can to help communities recover from this disaster. Warm wishes, Siaffa Bunduka, P.S. Whatever you can give to our urgent appeal will help people rebuild their lives after the flooding in East Africa. |
