A Note From Chrissy

As I write this, it's 19 degrees in my snowy backyard, and I hope you and your family are staying safe and warm!

In the life of a representative, you don't get much time to look back at the end of the year – at all of the achievements, and the things you could have done better. Duty and the next day always ends up calling, and now, I'm headed full speed into this critical election year. But, I wanted to take a moment to share with you some of the most important things that happened this January.

More Paid Leave for More People: A Framework for Paid Family Leave

After spending most of 2023 meeting with employers, insurers, academics, and policymakers, I'm proud to announce that the House Bipartisan Paid Family Leave Working Group, that I co-founded and co-chair with Rep. Stephanie Bice (R-OK), released a framework outlining our group's consensus for paid family leave options.

The document presents four initial pillars of possible legislative policy: a public-private partnership, coordination and harmonization of paid benefits across states, small employer pooling, and improvements to paid leave tax credits for small businesses and working families. I’ve long said that a new parent shouldn’t have to choose between putting food on the table and spending time with a newborn. I'm looking forward to working with our partners in the U.S. Senate to get improvements to our paid leave system across the finish line!

We Have 3 Opponents!

I know that this fight won't be easy – but I want to reaffirm that I am in it for the long haul. No matter who the GOP throws in this race, I am entirely confident of the commitment of this team, our vision for Pennsylvania, and of the incredible progress we've made together. The work we've done speaks for itself, and I have no doubt that, in conjunction with our hard work, the voters of our district will see that.

The State of the Sixth Town Hall at The Colonial Theater

Every year, I look forward to the annual tradition of my State of the Sixth Town Hall – and this year was no different. On Jan. 16, more than 100 community members braved the snow and freezing cold temperatures to come to Phoenixville to hear updates on my work on behalf of Chester and Berks Counties, to offer feedback to me, and for me to answer questions from the audience. Among the topics of discussion were recent and upcoming legislation and pressing local, national, and international issues. I value every opportunity I have to speak directly with my constituents, and I am so happy with the result of this year's State of the Sixth.

The Middle East

I, along with five of my colleagues with national security backgrounds, sent a letter to President Biden urging him to “use all our leverage to achieve an immediate and significant shift of military strategy and tactics in Gaza.” We wrote that “the mounting civilian death toll and humanitarian crisis are unacceptable and not in line with American interests…We know from personal and often painful experience that you can’t destroy a terror ideology with military force alone. And it can, in fact, make it worse.” I will continue to push for a resolution to this war which aligns with the values of democracies worldwide.

I know the months ahead won't be easy but it’s comforting to know that we’re in this together. Thank you for being on my team.

There's work to be done,

Chrissy
