Legislative Update ? January 24, 2024

Dear Neighbors,

Last week I attended legislative agenda meetings in both Cottage Grove and Inver Grove Heights, and this morning I attended South Saint Paul?s Local Issues meeting. As we gear up for the legislative session, I?m working with local partners on how best to advocate for our district at the Capitol.

I was also glad to join Ryan McEaney and others from Bailey Nursery in Cottage Grove at this year?s Green Expo [ [link removed] ] and talk to folks in the green industry about environmental policy.

WCCO Outdoor Show Appearance

Last Sunday afternoon I spoke with Rob Drieslein of Outdoor News on the WCCO Outdoors show about my work as the chair of the Environment and Natural Resources committee and upcoming priorities for the 2024 Legislative Session. You can find the whole interview here [ [link removed] ].

WCCO Outdoors

An important priority for the Environment Committee early in session will be passing the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) recommendations for 2024 funding. These are funds dedicated to projects that protect, enhance, and restore our water, air, soil, wildlife, and more. You can find additional information on the LCCMR webpage [ [link removed] ].

Clean Water Letter

I recently submitted my input on the Minnesota Clean Water Council?s strategic plan which is currently under evaluation. The Clean Water Council has made recommendations on funding for over 20 years, and I have called on the council to seek more public engagement going forward.

In the letter, I ask the Clean Water Council to focus on the outcomes of the money rather than inputs and spending of the money. Rather than counting inputs such as participants, acres, and expenditures, instead our focus should be on water quality improvements with measurable deliverables. You can find out more about the Clean Water Council and how to get involved here [ [link removed] ].
