Dear john ,

I hope that you and your family weathered the frigid weekend and are looking forward to warmer weather ahead. Last week on Capitol Hill was chaotic as two winter storms impacted Washington.  Despite the snow, we were able to make progress on holding Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas accountable for the disaster at the border.

The Swamp’s Amnesty Push

Swampy Senators on both sides of the aisle are currently negotiating a deal with Secretary Mayorkas to preserve our crisis-level flow of immigration under the guise of “border security.”

I don’t know about you, but I would not trust the man responsible for creating this border crisis with finding legislative solutions to the crisis. This disastrous deal may soon come up for a vote, and I will fight tooth and nail against this proposal, or any bill, that continues to cede our sovereignty and worsen the border invasion.

Impeaching Secretary Mayorkas

This past week, we held our second impeachment hearing of Secretary Mayorkas, focused on the heartbreaking human impact of open borders.

Mayorkas refused again to attend the hearing – this is now the 4th time he’s done so. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that he is again putting the interests of illegal immigrants and the radical left’s agenda ahead of the well-being of the American people.

This crisis is entirely resultant from deliberate policy decisions made by liberals when they are in power – and this is the most brazen we’ve ever seen them.

TWEET: What have Democrats offered to “solve” the border crisis? Processing more illegal immigrants or granting mass amnesty. It would do nothing but WORSEN the crisis we face - and that's their ultimate goal.

The Week in Weaponized Government

Our Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government uncovered yet another alarming instance of government surveillance and overreach, and we are already fully investigating the matter to bring accountability.

Federal officials instructed banks to flag private transactions that included terms like “MAGA” and “TRUMP,” as well as purchases of bibles and transactions at sporting goods stores. The deep state then categorized those customers as potential terrorists. That’s right – if you bought a bible, you’re a suspected terrorist, according to the D.C. Deep State.

This federal task force laundered its surveillance efforts through private banks to target Americans for exercising their protected First and Second Amendment freedoms. It’s beyond outrageous and shows no regard for fundamental civil liberties. We’re demanding that this task force’s head appear before the committee – we intend to get answers and ensure this can never happen again.

I also signed onto a critical amicus brief urging the US Supreme Court to overturn the dangerous and absurd decision from the Colorado Supreme Court that would remove former President Donald Trump from the ballot in that state. The Colorado decision threatens the very foundation of our democratic system and makes a mockery of both the Constitution and the rule of law.

Protecting American Sovereignty

We’ve all seen the news stories about the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) infiltrating America, even going so far as setting up secret police stations inside our border. It’s clear that the CCP exerts undue influence on American sports and entertainment. It’s deeply concerning and must end. We convened a hearing in the Homeland Security committee this past week to address the issue.

In the Judiciary committee, we marked up and passed out of committee multiple bills, including one to increase penalties against any individual fleeing from border patrol who injures or kills an officer.

Liberals on the committee, of course, resisted even this one common-sense measure to bring law and order to the border. Why? Because the chaos is what they desire.

Standing for North Carolinians Against the Swamp

I voted NO on last week’s government spending bill. It did nothing to address the crisis at the border, and continued the same old destructive swamp spending that was authorized in the Pelosi-Biden omnibus.

I joined with my House Freedom Caucus colleagues in voting against the bill. It should have been an easy NO for anyone concerned about our out-of-control federal bureaucracy and spending.

I was also honored to receive an A+ rating on the Susan B. Anthony pro-life scorecard. I will always work to promote a culture of life and stand for the most vulnerable among us.
