Update on the DOJ challenge to the Idaho abortion ban.

John – I told you that either the Texas or Idaho abortion law would head to the Supreme Court soon, and here we are.

Earlier this month, SCOTUS agreed to take up the Idaho case in their next session. But their decision included a cruel twist.

While the case is pending, they lifted the injunction that protected Idaho women and their doctors. Here are the details:

A graphic featuring a quoted section from an article published by the Idaho Capital Sun. This section is highlighted for extra emphasis: “Without the injunction, ER doctors are now subject to the full extent of Idaho’s abortion ban, which carries penalties of jail time, fines, and loss of a medical license.”

Let’s call this what it is: The US Supreme Court just agreed to let women die in emergency rooms while they decide the fate of Idaho's near-total abortion ban – a decision that likely won’t come for six months.

Elections have consequences, John, and the election of Donald Trump in 2016 handed Republicans the perfect opportunity to rig the courts in favor of the most radical factions of our society for a generation.

Never is that more clear than on a day like today, 51 years after Roe first made abortion rights the law of the land, and less than two years after those rights were stripped away.

To undo the damage wrought by this extremist right-wing supermajority on the Supreme Court, we need to elect leaders who will fight for our rights.

There is a path forward out of this national nightmare. If we hold the White House and the Senate majority, and fight for every single House seat to flip the House back for Democrats – we can pass a federal law protecting reproductive freedoms.

This is one of the reasons I’m running for Congress – and it’s a big one.

Your contribution today (together with thousands of other grassroots donors) can give us a competitive edge in a district Republicans aren’t prepared to defend. And in a state like Idaho, your campaign contributions stretch a LOT further. Can I count on you for a contribution of $25, $50, $100 or more today?

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

Right now abortion is a felony in Idaho – even when a woman’s bodily functions, limbs, or organs will suffer permanent damage without one – thanks to radical right-wingers who control our state legislature.

If we succeed in driving up turnout to flip ID-02, it will also lift up downballot Democrats and give us a fighting chance to shut down extremism in the State House.

We’ve got to attack this from every angle, because every day that this law is allowed to stand in Idaho, women’s lives are in danger.

More soon,

David

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
