‌John‌ –

Since extreme Republicans led by Donald Trump overturned Roe v. Wade two years ago, women in Texas have died from pregnancy-related complications, been forced to travel out of state for abortions, and faced lawsuits for helping their loved ones get access to abortion medication.

As a trauma surgeon, I know firsthand the life-threatening consequences of anti-choice legislation. Over the years — even before Roe was overturned — I’ve operated on women facing death from reproductive emergencies.

We all have the right to choose when and how to start a family. As a father to my daughter, I want her to grow up in a world where she is happy, healthy, and has the right to make her own choices about her body.

That’s why this fight is important to me.

We must stand against extremists interfering in the doctor-patient relationship. One of the most dire threats our state faces is the denial of reproductive health rights held by Texas women for nearly 50 years.

On this anniversary of Roe v. Wade, I will continue fighting to restore abortion rights, ensure Texans have access to the full range of birth control options, and protect private medical information.
