John, I have never been afraid of standing up for what's right. And that's exactly why far-right Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar kicked me out of an important House Subcommittee meeting.

John, there was once a time when my colleagues and I were able to speak civilly about our policies – a time when, even if we didn't agree, we let everyone voice their opinions.

But Donald Trump brought an end to that time. Now, thanks to his constant steamrolling, manipulation and bullying, he has emboldened his followers to adopt the same hostile attitude. And far-right Florida Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar has taken a page right out of Trump's playbook.

Tweet by Chairwoman Maria Elvira Salazar: "Today, I exercised my authority as Subcommittee Chairwoman to not allow an off-Committee Member to spread communist propaganda during my Cuba hearing. Members are not entitled to join and Committee proceedings without full consent of the Committee Members."

John, Congresswoman Salazar has labeled me a "communist." She kicked me out of the House Subcommittee just because I was voicing an opinion that she didn't like – and I cannot stress how incredibly dangerous that is. 

Our democracy cannot function or flourish if there is no room for disagreement among our lawmakers. That's why I vow to never submit to the status quo or be afraid to stand up for what's right – but I can do so much more work for this cause in the Senate.

John, if you help send me to the Senate, you have my promise that I will stand up against far-right extremism every single day. But the primary election is in just 43 days, and I urgently need more resources, so I have to ask:
