You don't want to miss this.     Our office hit the ground running this year, starting off the 118th Congress by introducing 43 bills, cosponsoring 370 pieces of legislation, and returning over $19 million in benefits back to the Lowcountry. Serving the Lowcountry is truly the honor of our lifetime. Here are some recent highlights we wanted to share: The bipartisan MACE Act of 2023 successfully passed the House, with the primary objective of modernizing federal cybersecurity job requirements to cultivate a more qualified and more competitive workforce. Rep. Nancy Mace (SC-01) introduced the bill, co-led by Democrat Rep. Katie Porter (CA-47). Notably, the MACE Act eliminates unnecessary college degree barriers for federal cybersecurity jobs, thereby providing opportunities for talented individuals with exceptional skills. The Lowcountry is home to about half of all active duty military installations in the state of South Carolina. This year, we continued protecting our military service members as well as our regional defense installations and assets. I voted to pass the National Defense Authorization Act NDAA for Fiscal Year 2024 to provide a 5.2% pay raise in service member basic pay, the largest in over 20 years, and support for our military families. Making strides for women: We introduced the Women’s Healthcare Anti-Death Penalty Construction Act. This bill requires a federal court to construe the imposition of a death penalty sentence for an individual convicted of an offense under state law for receiving or providing a reproductive health service (e.g., an abortion) as cruel and unusual punishment and a miscarriage of justice. It also authorizes civil suits by affected individuals and a right to habeas corpus relief in federal district court. Weeding out corruption: The House Oversight Committee has followed the money and built a record of evidence revealing how the President knew, was involved, and benefited from his family’s influence-peddling schemes. The House Oversight Committee, along with the Committees on Judiciary and Ways and Means, continue to follow the facts and deliver the transparency and accountability that the American people demand and deserve. Every South Carolinian deserves to know who is bought and paid for by our adversaries. Every state is a border state: Illegal immigration is a South Carolina problem. It doesn’t matter whether you have an ‘R,’ a ‘D,’ or an ‘I’ by your name. We are one of the Members speaking up, demanding the Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas be held accountable for his dereliction of duty. There have been at least 7.8 million illegal crossings of our Southern Border, and Americans have had enough. We support Mayorkas’s impeachment. This isn’t hard. Follow the law, that’s all we’re asking. Legislating for Lowcountry: We introduced 43 bills in 2023, each aiming to advance the interests and well-being of the Lowcountry. These legislative initiatives reflect our tireless dedication to addressing a diverse range of issues, from economic growth and healthcare to education and border security. We are committed to ensuring the voices of SC-01 are heard loud and clear in the legislative process. In 2023, we cosponsored 370 bills, 25 of which successfully passed the House, demonstrating our commitment to effective governance and nonpartisanship for SC-01. Our amazing staff has ensured when you call our office, you get a real human being who will help you. We've accomplished a lot, but we'll never stop putting in the work for the Lowcountry.
