LaCava's Column LET US KNOW YOUR CONCERNS Today, I chaired the first Environment Committee meeting of 2024. Committee discussion included each member’s priorities for the year. A work plan will be drafted, reviewed, and docketed for approval at our February 15th meeting based on those priorities. You too can contribute to this work plan. I encourage you to email me your Environment Committee priorities at [email protected] by February 8th for consideration. 2024 Work Plan Agenda RISING TIDES + RISING SEAS Our region experienced several King Tide events this winter, a natural phenomenon that highlights the importance of planning and building for resiliency along our coastline. I asked Professor Dick Norris of UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography to join me in explaining the role our local wetlands play against rising tides and the importance of protecting and expanding our marshes and wetlands. Take a look. Watch Video Here SAFETY AND INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATE Thanks to reporting from constituents, city staff repaired several lights in the north field of Torrey Hills Park. We will continue working on illuminating the entire park for residents to safely enjoy during the evening. For infrastructure and safety projects you would like to see in your neighborhood, please call my office at 619-236-6611, send me an email at [email protected], or attend a local meeting with one of my council representatives to let us know how we can help you get it done. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR POINT-IN-TIME COUNT Volunteers needed! The annual Point-in-Time Count helps us to assess the number of unsheltered in San Diego.
