Dear john ,

I hope that the new year is treating you and your family well. This past week, Congress returned to Washington to kick off the 2nd Session of the 118th Congress. It was a pleasure to spend time at home in North Carolina for the holidays, and I hope that you and your families were able to take some well-deserved time to rest and rejoice.

Impeaching Secretary Mayorkas

Last week in the Homeland Security Committee, we held our first official impeachment hearing of Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. The Committee’s second hearing is scheduled for this Thursday. Mayorkas is currently refusing to testify before the committee, claiming that he is too busy hosting a delegation of Mexican government officials to appear before the American people and answer for his failed policies.

Mayorkas is deliberately violating our nation’s laws, opening our borders and creating an unending flood of millions of illegal immigrants. As Justice Alito stated in his solo dissent in Biden v Texas, "...the only limit on the power of a President to disobey a law like the important provision at issue is Congress’s power to employ the weapons of inter-branch warfare- withholding funds, impeachment, and removal, etc.” To preserve the rule of law and the sovereignty of our nation, Mayorkas must be impeached.

Before the hearing, I joined Newsmax to speak about why this step is necessary.

The flood of illegal immigrants has overwhelmed our cities and is bringing chaos, crime, and illegal drugs into every corner of the country.

The solutions to the border crisis are simple for those with the desire to fix it, but Biden and Mayorkas have created the chaos on purpose.

TWEET: They want open borders and mass amnesty

In our first hearing, the Attorneys General from Missouri, Montana, and Oklahoma joined the committee to testify about the devastating impact of the Biden-Mayorkas border crisis on their states.

As we continue the impeachment process, I’ll keep you updated via social media and this newsletter.

Hunter Biden in Contempt

The House’s investigation into the Biden family’s corruption continues apace. Last week, the Judiciary Committee marked up and voted to pass a report recommending the House of Representatives find Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress for denying our lawfully issued subpoena to appear for a deposition. The Oversight Committee also marked up and approved a resolution to hold Hunter in contempt of Congress.

I voted to approve the report and will be voting to hold Hunter in contempt of Congress on the House floor.

Hunter Biden, after being subpoenaed, held a press conference in front of the Capitol, assisted by Democrat Congressman Eric Swalwell, boasting about his defying the duly-issued subpoena.

This week, Hunter took it one step further, appearing in the audience at the Oversight Committee’s markup of the contempt resolution .

As my colleague, Rep. Wesley Hunt, stated, Hunter wants to be treated with kid gloves. It’s time to take the gloves off and bring a dose of accountability.

TWEET: This is cut and dry. We should hold him in contempt of Congress.

Despite blatant evidence of Biden family corruption, leftists in Congress and the media continue to deny what is plainly obvious. We’re conducting an impeachment inquiry into President Biden to uncover the truth, and we won’t rest until we achieve that outcome.

TWEET: direct evidence of a bribe...

The Week In Weaponized Government

Our Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government subpoenaed the Director of National Intelligence, who has so far REFUSED to provide a single document we have requested in our investigation.

Combatting Forced Labor in China and Protecting NC’s Textile Industry

As chairman of the Oversight Subcommittee of the Homeland Security Subcommittee, I convened a second hearing to further examine how our government enforces the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act.

During our first hearing on the topic in October, industry leaders and policy minds highlighted the issues DHS has  with preventing goods made with forced labor in China from entering the United States. This past week, we brought in government officials to address those issues and find the best paths forward.

The CCP uses inhuman methods to produce these artificially cheap products. When they dump them into the marketplace, it perpetuates forced labor in China and does immeasurable harm to American domestic producers like our North Carolina textile industry.
