Message from Rep. Tracey Mann. Having Trouble Viewing? Click Here. Fellow Kansan, Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter! I’m pleased to update you on my work in Washington, D.C. and the First District of Kansas. It is an honor to represent Kansans in the Big First District in the 118th Congress. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America – I serve to fight and work to make it stronger, and I believe our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service,   Mann.House.Gov   The Week Ahead Before I returned to Washington, D.C. for another busy session week, I hosted a town hall in Douglas County as part of my fourth annual 60-county Mann Listening Session. You can read more about that town hall below. This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will continue to address the crisis at the southern border, including holding President Biden and U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas accountable. On Wednesday, the House will vote on a resolution denouncing the Biden administration's open border policies, condemning the national security and public safety crisis along the southwest border, and urging President Biden to end his administration's open border policies. Nearly 7 million illegal immigrants have crossed into the United States at our southern border since President Biden took office. He must be held accountable. ICYMI: Watch my recent Mann Minute on the border crisis. On Thursday, the House will consider two resolutions from the House Judiciary Committee and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability to find Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with the committees' subpoenas. It is time for the Biden family to provide Americans with the answers they deserve. Also this week, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee will hold a hearing to discuss the current state of the supply chain, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee's Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials will hold a hearing on railroad grade crossings, and the House Small Business Committee will hold a hearing to examine avenues to capital access.     In the District Douglas County Town Hall I enjoyed meeting with Kansans in Douglas County this week as part of my fourth annual Mann Listening Tour. During our time together, Kansans shared their concerns with the crisis at our southern border, the federal government's spending, and America's role as the beacon of democracy. As your representative in Congress, I value hearing what's important to you, and I'm committed to bringing your voices to the halls of Congress. It is an honor to represent you. Thank you again for braving the cold temperatures to meet with me. I am looking forward to visiting all 60 counties again this year. Be on the lookout for future town hall dates to see when my team and I will be near you.     In the Office Thank You, Kansas Agricultural Producers In the past week, parts of Kansas have seen 15 plus inches of snow, electricity outages for days, and road closures that stretch from every corner of the state. Even in the face of extreme freezing temperatures and abnormal snowfall, Kansas agricultural producers are standing strong and getting the job done. Thank you, farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers, for working so hard, especially on these cold days. It is an honor to represent you in Congress and on the House Agriculture Committee. Protecting Taxpayers' Interests, Ending President Biden's Slush Fund Kansans in the Big First District are sick and tired of the government being weaponized against them to fund partisan agendas. Last week, I voted to end President Biden’s settlement slush fund which his Administration used to divert proceeds from injured parties to line the pockets of third-party entities. The Stop Settlement Slush Funds Act puts a commonsense stop to this practice and protects Americans from paying for things that they don’t want. Click here to read more about my vote. Fighting for the Second Amendment Rights of American Firearm Exporters Last November, I joined more than 80 of my Republican colleagues in sending a letter to the Biden Administration's Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) in the Department of Commerce demanding answers on the unprecedented and reckless restriction on civilian firearm exports. The BIS published a new policy that halts the issuance of new export licenses involving certain firearms without any advanced notice to the public, comment period, or communication with industry stakeholders. The policy was released without proper procedure, prohibits law-abiding American businesses from selling firearms overseas, and leaves people even more vulnerable to bad actors. To help ensure that the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans are protected from this reckless policy, I cosponsor the Protect American Gun Exporters Act. This legislation would stop the current export license pause and prevent the Department of Commerce from taking any substantially similar actions in the future. The Second Amendment is a load-bearing wall of our Constitution. If you weaken a load-bearing wall, you damage the structure, and the entire building can come crashing down. That is why I will always fight to uphold the Second Amendment rights of the law-abiding American citizens. Click here to read the full text of the legislation. Reining in Burdensome EPA Regulations on American Small Businesses Last August, the Biden Administration's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a new proposed update to the Air Emissions Reporting Requirements (AERR) rule which would change how state, local, and tribal agencies (SLT) report emissions data to the EPA. According to EPA, the new AERR will affect more than 129,500 facilities across the country, including approximately 43,000 small businesses with $2.4 - $3 billion in costs to comply with the regulation. Americans are constantly facing overreaching federal regulations, and the Biden Administration is weaponizing the EPA to push its climate agenda. I cosponsor the Rein in the EPA Act, which would protect small businesses from EPA's burdensome emissions reporting. It is part of the foundation of America. As a Christian, and as the representative in Congress for the Big First District, I'm committed to upholding our freedom of religion and protecting Kansans from federal regulations that impede on this inalienable right. In honor of that right, I am introducing the Fair Assistance and Impartial Treatment of Help (FAITH) in Small Business Act this week. My legislation would ensure that faith-based small businesses are treated equally regardless of religious status, as the U.S. Constitution requires. America's freedom of religion is one of the foundational blocks that makes our nation the greatest one in the world. We must uphold and protect it today and for generations to come. Remembering Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. On January 15, we paused to celebrate the life and legacy of Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. In his iconic speech at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., Reverend King spoke of a dream. He called upon his fellow Americans to think about the heritage and promise of America - that all people are created equal and are endowed with inalienable rights by our creator. May we continue to carry on Reverend King's legacy and preserve the American dream for generations to come.
