How should the United States respond?

On Tuesday February 13^th, MCPP and the Heritage Foundation will be hosting a lunchtime discussion with two of America’s experts on China here in Mississippi;
* Michael Pillsbury, a Senior Fellow at the Heritage Foundation, best-selling author and former White House adviser, and
* Senator Roger F. Wicker, ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee and leading champion of the US military.

Under President Xi, China has snuffed out democracy in Hong Kong and is increasingly aggressive towards Taiwan. China is throwing her weight around the world through her Belt and Road initiative. How should America react?

For many years, China enjoyed double digit growth. This led many to believe that China would one day overtake the United States to become the preeminent global economic power. New data shows that as the Chinese communist party centralizes control, the Chinese economy has lost its dynamism. Does economic slowdown and demographic decline make China more or less of a risk?
