2023 Victory Party!

Thanks to Joshua Cole and everyone who joined us on November 30 to celebrate the 2023 election victories of Joshua (HD65) and Lashrecse Aird (SD13). Last week Joshua and Lashrecse took their seats in the BLUE House of Delegates and Senate.

Support Our 2024 State Bridges Partners!

Sister District DC/VA/MD is excited to support our State Bridges partners in Pennsylvania this year! Join us and Sister District groups from across the country on March 13, 8-9:30 pm ET, for an online event featuring special guests from our partner organizations, conversations with Sister District founders and leaders, and opportunities for attendees to ask questions and learn more about what’s happening on the ground in these key states.

Help us reinforce community-based organizers and activists from Pennsylvania Stands Up and Pennsylvania United by donating here or by texting bridgesdcva to 833-602-8124!

Coming in 2024

We have a challenging year ahead of us, but propelled by our success in 2023, we're looking forward to digging in and exceeding our accomplishments of last year.

Coming up...

  • Announcement of Sister District Candidates -- We expect to hear which candidates Sister District will be supporting in this year's elections in the spring, including the candidates we will be working with here in DC/VA/MD!
  • Spring Volunteer Kick-Off Event -- We will hold another volunteer kick-off event in early spring. Watch for details!

What You Can Do Now!

1️ Follow Sister District on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. From learning about the most pressing policy issues facing our state legislatures to keeping up-to-date on some of the most competitive state legislative elections this year, we’ve got you covered!

2️ Sign up to get volunteer opportunities. Spending your time and energy winning high impact state legislative elections is one of the best ways you can help build progressive state power. Be among the first to hear about writing postcards, texting, calling, and knocking on doors to elect progressives up and down the ballot in battleground states like Arizona, Wisconsin, and North Carolina by signing up today.

3️ Make an early gift to support our work. Building progressive power happens year-round. Right now, our political team is already crunching numbers and looking for the chambers and specific seats where our help can make the most difference. At the same time, our organizing staff is preparing our volunteer teams, hiring Organizing Fellows, improving our infrastructure, and more! The work we do is powered by supporters like YOU. The more funding we have, the bigger we can make our plans, and the more elections we can win!

Who is Sister District DC/VA/MD?

We are volunteers who agree that elections for state legislatures are where the real change is made, and understand the impact small efforts and donations can make in these critical elections.

The DC/VA/MD Steering Committee helps drive our efforts. Jeff Loesel is a Steering Committee member and Chair of our Communications Committee.

Jeff is a labor attorney, specializing in collective bargaining and member training for a national union. Jeff appreciates his role helping workers find and use their collective power to improve their lives and those of their families.

Jeff joined Sister District in 2022 because he saw how effective it could be. Jeff found Sister District to have a real strategy,  a plan to implement it, and saw how Sister District has had significant impact on progressive issues at the state level, which is exactly what Jeff teaches his members about being effective advocates. Sister District also offers volunteers a number of specific things they could do to help, including, for Jeff, when he is on the road for work.

Away from work, Jeff is a dad to an amazing 9-year-old daughter and enjoy reading, running, and biking.

Before You Go...

Sister District's mission is to imagine, build, and expand progressive power in state legislatures, and we know that organizing around elections is just one piece of the puzzle.

That's why we're amplifying the voices of local lawmakers, educating the public about the importance of state leaders and policies, and inspiring people to deepen their civic engagement -- especially locally and down-ballot.
