My family has been in the fight to create justice for generations. I come from a long line of veterans who have served since the Civil War, fighting to ensure that the ideals of life, liberty, and justice were a reality for every American. Today, as we honor the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., it is not lost on me that my ancestors committed to this fight despite those rights being denied to them.

We have made significant strides, but the fight for racial justice is not over. Together, we can create change and build communities where everyone can thrive.

As a Black man, I’ve experienced the pain of prejudice and discrimination. But I also know the power that comes from speaking out against injustices. My career as a doctor showed me that affordable healthcare, the environment, and gun violence are not just policy issues – but issues of racial justice. This has fueled my commitment to eliminate systemic racism and create communities where all can thrive.

In Congress, I’ll amplify the voices of those who feel the system ignores them. I’ll advocate for policies that promote equity, justice, and opportunity for everyone. And I’ll continue to fight to create the future we all deserve.
