I write this email with a heavy heart.  

As you may have heard, Ed Broadbent, former Leader of the NDP and titan of
social democracy, has passed away. 

He was a mentor and a friend to me, and so many others across the country.
He was an intelligent and compassionate force – and he used his power to
advocate for people when everyone else left them behind. 

Ed devoted decades of his life to fighting for justice and equality in
Canada and across the world. He took the challenges faced by ordinary
people and put them at the heart of his work every day. He taught me how
to turn political principle into actions that can improve the lives of
Canadians — and he never once lost sight of the people we fight for. 

Our country has lost a fierce champion. 

Thank you, Ed, for your tireless work towards building a Canada that
serves everyone. 

Rest in power.

C’est avec le cœur lourd que je vous écris ce courriel.   

Comme vous l’avez sûrement appris, Ed Broadbent, ancien chef du NPD et
géant de la social-démocratie, est décédé.  

Il était un mentor et un ami pour moi et pour tant d’autres personnes
partout au pays. Il était une force intelligente et compatissante qui a
toujours placé les intérêts des gens en priorité. 

Ed a consacré des décennies de sa vie à se battre pour la justice et
l’égalité au Canada et dans le monde entier. Il a su mettre au cœur de son
travail quotidien les défis auxquels sont confrontés les gens ordinaires.
Il m’a appris à transformer les principes politiques en actions concrètes
afin d’améliorer la vie des Canadiennes et Canadiens. De plus, il n’a
jamais perdu de vue les gens pour lesquels nous nous battons.  

Notre pays a perdu un grand champion.   

Merci, Ed, pour votre travail acharné visant à construire un Canada au
service de chacun.   

Repose en paix.
