We just heard that while Trump was telling people not to worry about coronavirus, Republicans were giving wealthy donors an early heads up about the real dangers posed by the disease and to get ready for a pandemic.
Trump has to pay a price for putting Americans in danger with his incompetent response to the pandemic while his enablers gave rich donors the early warnings. We are launching an effort to make sure every American knows exactly what they did--can you chip in $10 to help us hold Trump accountable?
Here’s what Trump was saying just a few days ago about coronavirus:
"It's going to disappear. One day, It's like a miracle. It will disappear.”
Here’s what a leading GOP senator, Richard Burr, was telling a group of wealthy donors down the street on the same day:
"It is much more aggressive in its transmission than anything that we have seen in recent history...It is probably more akin to the 1918 pandemic."
This senator told rich people in the room to be ready for altering their travel, school closures, and the possibility of the military being mobilized in response. The rest of us didn’t get these warnings for weeks.
This is a disgrace. Tests for the virus are still not readily available for the public. Our economy is in shambles. Families are sheltering in their homes in fear. And now we find out that rich friends of Republicans got the truth while Trump was spreading dangerous misinformation to the rest of us.
