John, if you need a license to drive a car, you should need a license to own a gun.

That’s just common sense.

I reintroduced the Federal Firearm Licensing Act in the Senate to save lives, and two examples show why this change is needed as plain as day:

In Connecticut, a state licensing law led to gun homicide and gun suicide rates plummeting by 28 and 33 percent.

But in Missouri, the repeal of a state licensing law resulted in a 47 percent surge in gun homicides and a 24 percent increase in gun suicides.

77 percent of Americans support gun licensing laws — Republicans, Democrats, and independents alike — but the powerful gun lobby led by the National Rifle Association doesn’t want our legislation to pass.

That’s why I’m reaching out to you today, John. We need to show them that not only do the American people want this common-sense gun safety legislation — we will be loud about it.

Add your name as a citizen cosponsor of my Federal Firearm Licensing Act. Let’s put Mitch McConnell and every other senator on the record with a vote for this lifesaving legislation before the election so the American people know where we stand.

Thank you in advance for speaking up for such an important issue. Passing this bill will save lives. Let’s get it done.

With love and gratitude,
