After months of a winnowing Republican field, last night Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley squared off in the final debate before the Iowa caucus. As expected, it was another race for second place, as the disgraced President Trump refused to show face at the event. These GOP debates have been a waste of time, and the angry, snippy attitudes of the candidates reflected the reality that most people in the room and those watching at home Watching the debate was rather concerning, as Nikki Haley’s foreign policy becomes increasingly hawkish each time she opens her mouth. The thought of her on the Republican ticket evokes a memory of the blood thirsty Bush years, and is something to be avoided at all costs. Ron DeSantis’ night wasn’t much better, as instead of focusing on real issues plaguing our country he harped on what he would do to fight “wokeness” in America. One in five kids in America goes to bed hungry each night, but Ron cares more about policing the books they can or can’t read. Give us a break. While the Republican sideshow debates are nearing completion, the elephant in the room has been nowhere to be seen. But President Trump doesn’t need the GOP debate stage to spew harmful rhetoric, and continues to make promises about his second term that will destroy the fabric of our country.
