John,

I recently discussed a deeply personal matter with Politico, shedding light on an issue of great importance to me: immigration.

As someone who was born in Mexico, moved to the United States at age 10, and am part of the 30 percent of residents in Cook and DuPage County who are foreign-born, this is more than a policy issue for me: It's a commitment to understanding and addressing the challenges our community faces.

As your Congressman for Illinois’ 4th Congressional District, I'm determined to fix our broken immigration system.

We need funding for cities like Chicago that are rapidly receiving immigrants bused from Texas, and support for nonprofits helping new arrivals. But we also demand immediate action for the 12 million long-term immigrants who have been contributing to this country for decades. We need to address immigration backlogs, especially considering the impact that the Republican-led bill Secure the Border Act of 2023 might cause.

This extremist bill, which, if passed, will drastically change our asylum system, as it would increase detention, restricts asylum at the border, and mandates the construction of more border walls.

These are not the measures we need. I believe in a system that's compassionate, not punitive.

Despite these extremist challenges, I'm optimistic as I know that we can continue to make Chicago a more welcoming place for everyone.

But we can't do this alone.

John, will you help me continue advocating for immigrants and bring about positive change by donating to our grassroots campaign and be re-elected to Illinois’ 4th Congressional District?

In unity,
