Message from Rep. Tracey Mann. Having Trouble Viewing? Click Here. Fellow Kansan, Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter! I’m pleased to update you on my work in Washington, D.C. and the First District of Kansas. It is an honor to represent Kansans in the Big First District in the 118th Congress. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America – I serve to fight and work to make it stronger, and I believe our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service,   Mann.House.Gov   The Week Ahead Tonight, the U.S. House of Representatives will convene for the start of the second session of the 118th Congress. This week, the House will consider multiple pieces of legislation that support America's ally, Taiwan, and combat our adversaries, China and Russia. H.R. 803, the PROTECT Taiwan Act would exclude the Chinese Communist Party from financial and intergovernmental forums if Congress and the President declare notice of any CCP threat to Taiwan. H.R. 4768, the No Russian Agriculture Act would decrease global reliance on Russian agricultural commodities. On Wednesday, the Homeland Security Committee will hold a hearing to evaluate U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas' failed leadership and refusal to enforce law and order at the southern border. While I do not serve on this committee, I am committed to holding Secretary Mayorkas accountable for his failed leadership. On Thursday, the House Small Business Committee will host a hearing to examine the rise of crime and its impact on small businesses. American businesses are facing an increase in shoplifting due to the progressives' soft-on-crime laws. During the hearing, American small business owners will share how the rapid increase in crime has affected them, and what they believe Congress can do to help. Serving as your representative in Congress continues to be the honor of a lifetime. There’s a lot of work to do this year, but with prayer and hard work, I believe our brightest days are yet to come. Douglas County Town Hall Rescheduled Due to Inclement Weather Due to inclement weather, my Douglas County Town Hall has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 8:00 AM CT. I am praying for the safety of those already impacted by the storm, especially those agricultural producers who will continue to work through the cold to keep food on our tables. My team and I hosted 21 town halls in 21 counties across western and central Kansas in three days. All week, I heard concerns about illegal immigration, out-of-control government spending, and workforce shortages. Kansans have also made it clear that Congress needs to reauthorize a strong, five-year farm bill to provide certainty to agricultural producers and reflect current market demands. It's clear that President Biden and Washington Democrats are out of touch with the challenges and concerns of citizens in middle America. As your representative in Congress, I will always fight to protect our country, preserve America's prosperity for our kids and grandkids, and bring the commonsense voices of Kansans to the halls of Congress. Thank you for meeting with me and sharing your concerns. I'm looking forward to visiting all 60 counties again this year. Be on the lookout for future town hall dates to see when we'll be near you. ICYMI: Watch my Mann Minute recapping last week's town halls below. New District Director I am pleased to announce Sarah Henry of Randolph, Kansas as my new District Director. Sarah joined my team in June 2021, initially serving as District Agriculture Representative and later as Deputy District Director. Over the past year and a half, she has been a member of Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership (KARL) Class XVI. Sarah, her husband Dalton, and their son Samuel live on a farm north of Manhattan where they have a cow-calf operation. Sarah has served Kansans in the Big First with empathy, loyalty, and tenacity. She is a consummate professional, and I have the utmost confidence in her abilities. Sarah will manage my district team which can assist you with issues like navigating a federal agency, resolving a federal tax matter, expediting a passport, and more.
