Friend,

California has some of the most ambitious climate goals in the world — but setting goals isn’t enough.

We also have to meet those goals, and recent reports show that we need to quadruple our pollution reduction to even have a chance at reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2045.

To lower carbon emissions as quickly and equitably as possible, we have to start with our biggest source of pollution: our transportation system.

While California is set to shift to 100% new zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) sales by 2035, we also have to transition what’s actually being driven on the road, starting with disproportionately polluted communities.

A budget is a statement of values. We need your help to make sure California’s 2024 budget reflects the urgency of the crisis we are living through.

Friend, will you sign our petition to urge California leaders to prioritize climate action in the 2024 state budget?

In 2022, Governor Gavin Newsom approved $54 billion in climate spending over the next five years — a bold statement about California’s commitment to leading the nation in the fight against climate change.

But with the Golden State facing a sizable budget deficit heading into this new year, and that $54 billion already cut down to $52 billion, we need to make our voices heard and ensure that these vital climate funds are not sacrificed to balance the books while Big Oil and other corporate polluters receive billions in taxpayer-funded subsidies.

California made history last year by passing SB 253, the strongest corporate emissions transparency law in the country and in much of the world. Governments and regulators around the planet are studying our success in California to develop their own emissions disclosure rules.

But new programs like the one SB 253 creates need sufficient funding. And that funding comes from a strong climate budget.

That’s why we need to ensure Governor Newsom and state legislators uphold our climate funding commitments at this pivotal moment.

Can you help defend California’s climate progress by signing our petition to make climate a core part of the 2024 budget?

Raise your voice and tell California leaders you support prioritizing climate investments.

We are building momentum, and making progress in the fight for an equitable, sustainable future, but taking a year off will see us slide backwards at a time when we can’t afford to waver.

Thank you for being part of this movement.
