The Virginia General Assembly will convene on January 10. We expect that a significant number of environmentally-related bills will be considered, including bills on controlling invasive plants, protecting the tree canopy, and allowing homeowners in HOAs more flexibility in planting native plants. Would you be interested in joining with members of ASNV’s Advocacy Committee to advocate for legislation that will help protect our environment?

We will alert you from time to time when bills are being considered by legislative committees and when they are scheduled for vote by the House or Senate. You can help by writing a letter or email to the committee, your delegate or your senator urging passage (or not) of a particular bill. We will give you information that you can use in your communications. If you are new to advocacy, be assured that you would be working with more experienced advocates who could help instruct you. Lack of experience is not disqualifying!

If you are interested in helping, please send an email to Tom Blackburn, ASNV’s Advocacy Committee Chair, at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) . Please include your name, physical address (so we can identify which legislators represent you), any particular area of interest (e.g., trees, invasive plants, wetlands, etc.) and the names of the delegate and senator representing you, if you know them.
