Student Parent Success Initiative Announcements

Generation Hope Wants to Hear from You

Calling all current and former student parents!



The Institute for Women’s Policy Research, Imaginable Futures, Chegg, and The Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice have partnered with Generation Hope, a nonprofit that helps teen parents become college graduates while helping their children prepare for kindergarten, to conduct a national survey of student parents on their experiences in college.



Student parents who complete the survey will have the option to be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card. Responses will be accepted until April 10, 2020.

Please spread the word with student parents in your networks. The findings will be released in a report in May 2020 with the hope of providing colleges, universities, and higher ed professionals with insights about what it is like to be parenting while pursuing a postsecondary credential.

Rise Prize Funds Projects to Support Student Parents

There is still time to apply for the Rise Prize, a flagship initiative to accelerate the postsecondary success of student parents. The Rise Prize will give 10 awards totalling $1M to solutions driving economic mobility and well-being for student parents. Read this overview for details.



Applications are open now through April 6. Non-profit organizations, for-profit edtech companies, and innovative solutions within traditional degree institutions and non-traditional credential, certificate, workforce development, alternative college pathways programs, and bootcamps are all encouraged to apply!

College Success for Single Mothers Application Open

The National College Transition Network (NCTN) at World Education is pleased to release the College Success for Single Mothers Application for community colleges.



College Success for Single Mothers is a three-year project (2020-2022) funded by ECMC Foundation. The project will assist eight community colleges to identify the needs of single mother students on campus and develop a plan to expand key practices and services to enhance their success in college and careers.



Selected colleges will form a cross-functional task force of decision makers, practitioners, and stakeholders to carry out the activities of the project and receive a $10,000 stipend.



Application submissions are due 5:00 p.m. (ET) Friday, May 1.

SPSI serves to initiate new research, raise awareness on the need for student parent supports, and foster communication and collaboration among advocates, policymakers, educators, and practitioners.
