John – I’m worried.

The other day I was down at the DMV, and there was a canvasser there gathering signatures to get No Labels on the presidential ballot in Idaho.

Someone in front of me waved him away, “I’m not signing that, I’m a Republican.”

Undeterred, the canvasser replied, “This will hurt the Democrats and help the Republicans!”

Shocking as it was to hear someone say it out loud – he’s not wrong.

With so many 3rd party candidates and many voters put off by a Trump-Biden rematch, there is a real risk that no candidate will get 270 electoral college votes in November.

If that happens, the 2024 presidential election will be decided by the members of Congress we elect this year. When you think about who we have representing us in Congress right now, do you trust them to respect the will of the voters?

Three years ago today, 147 Republicans voted to overturn the 2020 election that Joe Biden won – including a representative from Idaho. Fast forward 22 months, and BOTH of our congressmen (including my opponent Mike Simpson) eagerly voted to install one of the key insurrectionists in Congress as Speaker of the House.

If Republicans are allowed to retain control of the majority next year, under Speaker Mike Johnson we can be certain that they will refuse to certify the election results.

That’s one of the biggest reasons I’m in this race, John. Because Democrats have to fight for every single seat to stop a repeat of January 6th – this time, a potentially successful one.

Three years ago a violent mob of Trump supporters smashed their way into the Capitol and held our lawmakers under siege for hours. One year from now, they may not have to – if they have the footsoldiers in place ready to do Trump’s bidding inside the House chamber.

Let’s not give them that opportunity.

This future is not yet written, and there is a ray of hope to light our way.

This district has been fundamentally written off by the national parties. Idaho is not a state where either major party expects to compete.

Your contribution of $50, $100, or $500 here in Idaho goes SO much further than it can in a reliably “blue state” like California, and we can win this seat with a fraction of the budget other campaigns spend.

I’m not a politician. I’m a single dad and a nonprofit leader. Most of all, I’m an Idahoan. I’m in this race to defend our democracy and fight the policies that working families need.

I know we can win this race, but I can’t do it alone. Please consider a contribution today, and let’s make sure MAGA never gets another chance to steal an election.

In service,

David Roth

David Roth is a single, gay dad running for Idaho’s Second Congressional District. We’re going up against a GOP incumbent who has been in this seat for almost 25 years. It’s time for change in Idaho, and our grassroots campaign is building on the momentum that began in David’s race for U.S. Senate last cycle. The GOP is not planning to defend this seat, so we plan to take it from them and help Democrats retake the House majority next year. We’d love your support to build a solid campaign to bring progress to Idaho and the country.
