Message About COVID-19
We know many people are struggling financially during the COVID-19 pandemic and are scared about their family's health and financial security. We are too, but we are doing our best to press on. Our office has switched to telework until health officials determine it's safe to return to the office. Not everyone in our country
is able to do so and many people are experiencing layoffs as restaurants close, many industries languish, and small businesses and workers in our communities are suffering. We understand many of you may not be able to make a financial contribution at this time. That's why we truly appreciate your gift of time to take action
and amplify our advocacy work on Capitol Hill. And we also appreciate anyone who is able to make a donation to please do so right now, so we can continue fighting back and avoid a significant fundraising gap from this unprecedented crisis. Thank you for supporting the National Partnership in any way possible!
John:
We're working day and night to help ensure all workers have access to paid sick days as part of our nation's COVID-19 emergency response.
Here's a quick update on where things stand tonight:
* The House passed the Families First bill on Saturday;
* GOP members in the House then gutted the paid sick days and paid leave provisions, significantly weakening the bill and leaving out millions of workers who need them most;
* The Senate passed the Families First bill today, and President Trump is expected to sign it soon.
While we are deeply disappointed that Republicans in Congress care more about bailing out big corporations than protecting the lowest-wage workers in the United States ... the Families First bill is still historic. It's the first national paid sick days and paid leave bill ever passed, and hundreds of Republicans are now on record supporting it. We have a down payment on our efforts, and we intend to build on it.
Make no mistake: We're not giving up.
* Our allies on the Hill have already introduced a new bill -- the P.A.I.D. Leave Act -- which the National Partnership helped write;
* The House is now working on another coronavirus response bill that will also provide additional economic stimulus; and
* We are working with a broad coalition of partners to continue advocating for these critical paid leave provisions.
Here's how you can help: things are moving very quickly, and we need to keep up public pressure so every member of Congress does the right thing and votes to protects U.S. workers and their families.
Please take a minute right now to call, email and tweet your senators and representative and urge them to make sure that all workers have access to paid sick days and paid leave, during this pandemic and permanently.

Subject: Your voice needed: Pass the coronavirus response act
URGENT: Tell Congress to pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act now!
Hi
John,
During this time of great uncertainty, disruption and change, I want you to know that the National Partnership is working tirelessly to make sure that those living on the economic margins are not forgotten in our nation's coronavirus response.
Central to achieving that goal is addressing the tragic fact that more than 32 million private sector workers have NO PAID SICK DAYS!
We're speaking with reporters all across the country to expose our country's failure to ensure working people have adequate time away from work to care for themselves and their loved ones.
And we're helping to lead a coalition of more than 140 organizations working with Congressional leaders to center our nation's response on those harmed most by this failure; women of color, workers with lower incomes, and individuals who work in service industries and are therefore more vulnerable to contagion.
Our collective efforts paid off this week when Speaker Nancy Pelosi unveiled the Families First Coronavirus Response Act -- critical legislation that would provide emergency paid sick days and paid leave, extend the use of the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) for public health emergencies, provide critical coverage for parents and caregivers in the event that schools and other facilities are closed, and much, much more.
John, we need your help to make sure every senator hears overwhelmingly from their constituents at this critical time.
Take action: Tell Congress to pass the Families First Coronavirus Response Act now!

Thanks for all that you do.
Debra Ness
President
