John, I started this campaign after 21 members of the Uvalde community — a community I represent in the state Senate — lost their lives in a tragic mass shooting.
I just couldn’t sit around and watch as Republican extremists did nothing in the wake of such a horrific event right here in our state.
That’s why I was pleased to join local leaders at the White House to advocate for gun violence prevention — and why I’m grateful for leaders like President Biden who take this issue seriously:

[CHIP IN TO ELECT ROLAND >>]
As Texas’ next Senator, stopping the gun violence epidemic will be at the top of my agenda.
Because here’s the bottom line, John: Texas can’t afford another six years of Senator Ted Cruz.
The hard truth is that if Ted Cruz wasn’t persuaded to support gun control after 21 of his own constituents — 19 of them children — lost their lives in Uvalde, there’s simply no convincing him.
And since 2023 was another record-breaking year for mass shootings in this country, the time for action is now.
That’s why I’m running. And that’s why I’m counting on you to stand with me.
If you believe the time is now for gun control in Texas and across the country, then will you join me in the fight to defeat Ted Cruz? Anything you can spare would go such a long way. >>
