A note from from Mayor Brian Turnbull...

** NORTHVILLIANS,
------------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to
2024! It’s going to be a great year for the Ville … Moving Forward Together! This week, I wanted to take time to look back at 2023 and the initiatives we’ve been working on. As always, I thank you for sharing your time and talents on Northville Community projects for the benefit of all in the area.

The year 2024 (MMXXIV) will be a leap year in the Gregorian calendar, the 2024^th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 24^th year of the 3^rd millennium, the 24^th year of the 21^st Century and the 5^th year of the 2020’s decade.

According to the Chinese zodiac cycle, the year beginning in 2024 is the year of the Dragon. As we get ready for Northville’s 2027 Bicentennial Year, we will have to engage wholeheartedly and fly high like the Dragon. This is indeed a transformational time for our community, partnering with the Township, the Schools, and with each of you for the betterment of our town. We are all on the shoulders of those that have come before us, and it is our privilege to ready our “Hamlet in the Hills” for the next generation.

Before readying for 2024, let's see what's happening TODAY ...
* MLK Northville Gathering – 1/14, Sunday, 2pm at Northville Community Center. JOIN IN with others, including our spiritual institutions in the community, to experience some food (from Genitti’s, Great Harvest, and Sweet Brew N Spice), fellowship, NHS Choir entertainment, Excerpts from Rev. Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, along with other activities. See you on 1/14 at 2 PM at the Community Center. Link ([link removed])

* Northville: The Ideal Suburban Village – 1/24, Wednesday, 7pm at Mill Race Village. I will present our town’s unique history through stories and photos. Link ([link removed])

* Save Mary Gilbert’s Historic Northville Log Cabin! The Northville River Task Force needs your help to move an innovative cabin built on the river by a single woman in the 1930s. See link for information and to donate. Link ([link removed])

Let's look at what's in store for 2024 that we started in 2023...
THE YEAR IN REVIEW -----

Our Strengths: Businesses, Greenspaces and our Schools

City Priorities: Financial Stability, Infrastructure Improvements, Funding of Key Initiatives

Community Cooperation Activities: The Northville River Restoration & Riverwalk initiative, planning for the Farmers’ Market future home, Ford Field renovations, Log Cabin relocation, and ongoing local events.

New Endeavors and Future Development:
* Our downtown Social District has had outstanding new additions in 2023, including the Great White Buffalo Brewing Company, and The Exchange, with its new rooftop dining which in ’23 was rated as one of the top rooftop dining areas in the metro Detroit.

* Bollards were added in ’23 for flexibility in conducting downtown events and carrying out seasonal closures of downtown Northville streets.

* The Foundry Flask area (Main St./ Cady) on the Riverwalk is being planned for development for future Commercial/Retail activity (site of one of Michigan’s oldest foundries).

* Final Site Plan details for Northville Downs Development was finalized & approved in ’23 which will include a diversity of residential choices, along with expanded commercial/retail space. A transformational city park and Riverwalk greenspace will be constructed immediately, providing major community benefits for our town.

Additionally:
* The Marquis Theater (100+ years old) has undergone renovations and is now reopened for selective concerts in downtown Northville.

* The Tipping Point Theater is performing live shows for sold-out audiences.

* The Mill Race Village where our history comes alive is readying to brick-lay their lane in preparation for our bicentennial to improve the ambiance and drainage capabilities.

* The Historic Gold Cure Building from the 1800’s is being renovated on Main St.

* The site of the historic Opera House (Dunlap & Center St.) is readying once again to have a gateway structure for the City at this intersection.

Breaking News – NEW TASK FORCES (Bicentennial & Cemetery Renovation TEAMS). Two additional task forces for the community are being established, and we seek your participation. The first is our Bicentennial Task Force, who will be charged with preparing plans for Northville’s Bicentennial Celebration. A second task force will be established to assist in renovating our historic cemeteries to be beautiful walking-history memorial parks. Both of these teams will start to meet in February. More details to be publicized in City News.

The Northville TEAM (Township, Schools, and City) are committed to implementing our “Way Forward” Plan, providing pathways in all respects for the future, connecting Northvillians with each other and with our surrounding communities.

I thank each & every one of you for assisting the Northville Community during 2023. I know many of you have reached out to help our youth and our seniors, as well as donated time to Civic Concern and other activities in the area. Let’s move forward together in 2024. In closing, I would also like to sincerely thank our merchants & service organizations for all you do for the city we love.

These are truly exciting times and with your assistance, I believe the future is BRIGHT.

Let’s get ready for an amazing 2024 and start this New Year STRONG!!

Keep that Northville 2024 Faith!
