In 2003 our dedicated editorial team published over 500 pages of content across 10 issues of the magazine. Along the way we presented our readers with 186 stories from 94 different voices and over 900 vivid photos and illustrations from 230 artists. Like any doting parents we are always eager to show off our creations. But, unlike (we hope!) most parents, we actually DO have favorites!

Nathan Adams, "Publications Manager"

*In the Footsteps of Dinos* [ [link removed] ] by Dale Weisman

"Reading anything about dinosaurs brings out the kid in me. After reading this story, I'm not saying I dug out my old Jurassic World velociraptor hands and stalked my kids around the house making wholly inaccurate dinosaur noises, but I'm not "*not* "saying it either."

Martha Gazella-Taylor, "Publications Designer"

*The Flies of Texas* [ [link removed] ] by Sheryl Smith-Rodgers

"The title and tone of the story inspired me to give readers an unusual and up close look at flies as elegant little works of art, instead of the pesky villains that ruin picnics."

*Texas Day/Night Double Header* [ [link removed] ] by Nathan Adams

"Trying to choose my favorites from all the photos of? minor league baseball team mascots hanging out at state parks would just be impossible. All of them are so different and made for extremely fun days at work."

Chase Fountain, "Photographer"

*A Turning Point for Texas Parks [ [link removed] ]* by George Bristol

"Sonja Sommerfeld's artistry shines through in the photo opener, adeptly freezing the moment when the sun begins its descent, casting a warm, golden glow over the granite rocks and creating a magical ambiance that lingers in the viewer's imagination."

Sonja Sommerfeld, "Photo Editor"

*Back in the Saddle* [ [link removed] ] by Shannon King

"The beauty of Shannon's story is that it was not only about finding places where she could ride her horse. It was also about how spending time in nature healed her, and traveling alone taught her how to love and trust herself again."

Traci Anderson, "Business Manager"

*Camper Coffee* [ [link removed] ] by Brandon Weaver

"Like Brandon, I can remember being a tiny thing and drinking coffee with my grandparents, so the connection between coffee and community really resonated. Throw in photographer Jerod Foster and excellent local roasts, and you have a classic buddy road trip tale!"

Eva Frederick, "Managing Editor"

*The Flies of Texas* [ [link removed] ] by Sheryl Smith-Rodgers

"This article turns a tender eye to some of our state's most under-appreciated insects ? there's so much to love about flies!"

bison [ [link removed] ]

Russell Roe, "Editor"

*Bison Death Plunge* [ [link removed] ] by Eva Frederick

"This was one of the coolest and most interesting archeological finds in recent years, and Eva told the story with care and flair."
