Can I be transparent with you for a moment? Despite my life-long love for the beauty of the Boundary Waters, a dark cloud looms in the back of my mind every time I reflect on its future. For all of the peace and serenity that I find paddling the waters of the BWCA, there is also an ever-present awareness that, in an instant, this could all be destroyed.
At this moment mining companies are plotting how they will place a toxic mine on the shoreline of the Boundary Waters. A single decision, one small mistake, would destroy any hope for future generations to experience the Boundary Waters and there will be no going back. You and I can’t afford to be complacent , we must do everything we can to ensure that this threat to the Boundary Waters never happens.
