Whole Foods, Amazon, Costco and more -- the places we shop need to do their part to reduce plastic waste and confront the pollution crisis. We need your support to convince these companies to waste less and make a more sustainable future possible. DONATE:

John,

It's the same story at pretty much every store you walk into, no matter what you intend to buy: Shelves covered in plastic packaging as far as the eye can see.

It's almost impossible to avoid plastic waste nowadays. Plastic producers are flooding our lives with single-use "stuff."

Isn't it frustrating that the companies that make and sell plastic bear little to no responsibility for the waste their products inevitably become?

We have a plan to hold plastic polluters accountable in the year ahead -- but we need your support, John.

Are you with us? Make your gift to our End of Year Drive before the deadline at midnight tomorrow to help fuel a more sustainable future.

Individuals and companies must work together if we're going to put a stop to the plastic pollution flooding our environment and threatening our health. Here's what we're doing to make sure plastic producers are pulling their weight:

It starts on store shelves:

We all need to shop for the necessities of daily life, so if stores would get unnecessary plastic off of their shelves in the first place, we'd take less wasteful plastic home.

That's why we're calling on retailers like Costco, Walmart, and Whole Foods to cut back on the amount of wasteful plastic packaging they use. Slowly but surely, we're convincing companies to do the right thing.

This past fall, after receiving thousands of petitions from PIRG supporters, Costco agreed to publish a plastic action plan to reduce plastic use within its Kirkland Signature brand -- an important first step forward.[1]

Donate today to help us convince Costco, Whole Foods and more to cut back on wasteful plastic.

We're convincing online retailers like Amazon to do their part, too.

Far too often, shopping online often sends you piles of plastic packaging on top of whatever it is you actually ordered.

For years, PIRG has been urging Amazon to cut back on its packaging waste -- and this year, with your support, we're finally beginning to make the company see things our way. Amazon recently announced that it will phase out those flimsy blue-and-white padded envelope mailers in favor of more recyclable materials.

Donate today to urge Amazon to reduce its overuse of single-use plastic packaging.

And when it's time to dispose of waste, we're making sure companies don't incinerate plastic and call that "recycling."

Whether it's the plastic pillow padding your Amazon order or the plastic wrapper on your groceries -- all single use plastic is designed to be thrown away eventually. What happens to it next?

You may have heard a new buzzword that seems like it might be a solution to plastic recycling problems -- but so-called "chemical recycling" is really a term invented by the oil, gas and petrochemical industries to hide where plastic is actually going: the incinerator.

Burning plastic isn't recycling, and it produces a ton of harmful pollution. We're working to put a stop to this wasteful and polluting practice, and to promote the real solutions to plastic waste.

Donate today to help put a stop to the wasteful and dangerous practice of incinerating plastic.

All of these campaigns and more are fueled entirely by supporters like you, John -- we don't take a penny from corporations.

As we gear up for the year ahead, your continued support is vital to ensure we have the resources to keep holding these wasteful companies accountable and win our next big victory to move the world beyond plastic.

Donate to our End of Year Drive by midnight tomorrow to help us meet our $100,000 goal and keep these important campaigns going strong.
