Earlier this month, the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in June v. Russo, a case that poses a direct threat to Roe v. Wade, and stems from Louisiana state law.

State legislatures in Utah, Ohio, Mississippi, and Colorado have moved forward with their own anti-choice legislation in the hope of denying women reproductive freedom and triggering more Supreme Court challenges that threaten Roe.

A seeming influx of state-wide abortion bans may seem new, but it is all part of a coordinated scheme by Republicans.

First: They pass state laws that restrict abortion access (or attempt to).

Then: Either these laws go into effect and negatively impact the ability of women in these states to access abortion. Or they are challenged in the courts and eventually make their way to the Supreme Court.

Finally: With a conservative anti-choice Supreme Court majority that includes Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, it is the hope of Republicans that the Court will overturn Roe and end abortion access in the United States.

More state laws restricting choice, more chances for the Supreme Court to overturn Roe.
