Even as more and more aspects of public life are shut down in California
as we work together to fight the COVID-19 epidemic, we know that our
fundamental freedoms are still on the line.

Our current crisis has shown just how unfit our current leadership is to
govern. Just last week, Trump administration officials and anti-choice
politicians in Congress tried to insert anti-choice language into the
COVID-19 response bill, an unconscionable stunt meant to slow down
negotiations around this package to provide much-needed relief.

That’s why we need more champions for reproductive freedom in Congress.
And we have our chance with a critical special election to elect Christy
Smith to Congress on May 12th.

in the face of a public health crisis like this.

A dedicated public servant, Christy Smith is running to fill an open seat
in California’s 25th Congressional District that will help maintain our
pro-choice majority in the House. During her primary earlier this month,
Christy earned the majority of votes in a field of 12 candidates and
advanced to a runoff election.^1 Now, she needs our help to bring her
campaign across the finish line on May 12th, and the stakes are high. Her
opponent, Mike Garcia, has extreme anti-choice views and would be a
dangerous setback for CA-25, where we helped Katie Hill win this seat less
than two years ago.
