I know this past week has been overwhelming for a lot of us. The details and impacts of COVID-19 are rapidly changing and it can be a challenge to keep up with the up-to-date information. I will continue to do my best to keep you informed on any major changes and new resources. We will get through this together.
LEGISLATIVE UPDATES
As you may have heard, the General Assembly has suspended the legislative session until Monday, March 30th, at which point the situation will be reassessed. My office will be working remote, so please continue to reach out to us with any concerns that arise.
STATE UPDATES
Yesterday, Monday, March 16th, Governor Polis made the decision to take additional statewide actions in order to halt the spread of the COVID-19.
-Bars and restaurants across the state will be closed for dine-in service for the next 30 days. Many of these restaurants will still be open for takeaway or delivery service.
-The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles, the entity that issues new drivers licenses, will be closed.
-Gyms, casinos, and movie theaters will also be closed.
The Governor's office also introduced a new campaign, #DoingMyPartCO to encourage Colorado residents to continue to practice social distancing and to do your part to stop the spread of COVID-19.
-Colorado Emergency Paid Leave Rules: This rule is meant to limit the spread of the highly contagious disease and enables workers to access testing.
-Colorado Unemployment Insurance: During layoffs, all employees are encouraged to apply for unemployment insurance.
-Work-Share Program: May allow certain employees who have reduced hours to claim partial unemployment benefits.
-Layoffs/Separations assistance, information and resources.
I want to thank our healthcare, service, city, and county employees for their work during this time. We truly appreciate everything you are doing to get our communities through this! Let's continue to take this situation seriously and monitor changes in recommendations. We must protect our society's most vulnerable people and flatten the curve of this epidemic.
