In the recent past, House Democrats and Republicans both operated with a relatively narrow band of party unity on contested floor votes. But this changed in 2020, as Democrats took power and pushed through a number of progressive policy initiatives. In the process, Democrats stuck together to maintain their narrow majority, while Republican unity fell. ([link removed])
