Dear Fraser Institute Friends and Supporters,
I hope you are well and navigating these uncertain times with the help of family, friends and colleagues.
Here at the Fraser Institute, we have been implementing preventative measures out of an abundance of caution. As of today, we have asked all of our staff and scholars, who have the ability to work from home, to do so for the foreseeable future.
While we at the Institute will not be physically working together, we will remain connected and endeavour to be as productive as ever. Despite widespread concern about the virus, other public policies continue to be important and we will keep our eyes on the ball despite the disruption.
As you know, thanks to poor government policy, particularly at the federal level, Canada had a crisis of confidence before the international spread of COVID-19. Once the COVID-19 crisis passes, and it will, Canada will still have a serious competitive problem that has led to investors fleeing our country ([link removed]). Our economy was in trouble and now it will be ever more so.
We also know that whenever the economy takes a sudden turn towards recession, governments tend to implement expensive “stimulus” packages that do little to actually improve the economy while wasting significant taxpayer resources. We will remain vigilant about educating Canadians about our previous experience with stimulus packages ([link removed]) and the need to get the fundamentals right – it is, after all, always good policy but particularly so in volatile times.
Simply put, the Fraser Institute’s research and outreach is needed today, and will be needed more than ever once the impact of COVID-19 subsides.
Over the coming weeks, I encourage you to continue to engage with us. You can stay up to date on our work by visiting our website ([link removed]) and/or subscribing to receive email updates on our activities ([link removed]). And we’ll still be plenty active on social media including Facebook ([link removed]), Instagram ([link removed]), Twitter ([link removed]) and Youtube ([link removed]).
Thank you for being a great friend and supporter of the Fraser Institute. If there is anything we at the Fraser Institute can do for you, please let us know.
Wishing you the best,
Niels
